Kiwi/Oz Rock. The band shook the foundations of every major Australasian pub venue from 1980 - 1990 touring extensively throughout NZ and Australia with the likes of Dave Dobbyn, Shona Laing, Midnight Oil and The Tom Robinson Band (UK) and opened for Queen and Elton John among others. For ten years the Narcs kicked it in every town in NZ playing regular gigs at Mainstreet, The Gluepot , The Esplanade and every other major venue in the country. The band were one of the first Kiwi acts apart from Split Enz to have records released worldwide - through CBS.They were also one of the first Kiwi road bands to carry huge sound systems and lighting rigs, employing the best Australasian road crews, staging full-on rock shows to sold out houses on their many concert and pub tours.
ANZAC rock band The Narcs rose to prominence nationally out of Christchurch in the 1980s to become one of New Zealand's iconic 80'sbands. Early shows were high energy hard rock shows feat. wall of sound guitars and heavy mainstream pub rock anthems like Stay Away and No Turning Back. As the band progressed it moved into the areas of soft rock and big rock songs scoring its biggest hit with a slow burning rock ballad (You Took Me) Heart and Soul (CBS) which won Most Popular Song award at the 1984 RIANZ awards. The Narcs last album Push The Boat Out (Hark) featured a range of material and is arguably the band's best album - produced by Wayne Gillespie the songs ranged from heavy rock to funk and soft rock. EMI relesed The best of The Narcs in 2003.
The Narcs is a Band of Brothers who have kept faith with the music since the band's earliest days. All four members are still involved in music - Tony Waine and Steve Clarkson playing together in Snorkel (Auck). Andy Dickson is based in Australia and has recorded and performed with Ghostwriters (Rob Hirst, Ric Grossman) and (sister of Jenny Morris) Shanley Del amongst others and keeps busy producing independent projects with his Brisbane based recording studio Fabcd Recording Services fabcd@optusnet.com.au and with his band 'the elements' www.theelements.com.au. Liam Ryan gigs with UberCat The Torch Songs Band and has a hot side project M2M ( Mississippi To Mauao). - check out www.m2m.org.nz. He is currently living in Nelson and mixing down a new album "Pacific Riviera" due for release in the NZ spring of 2009.
