AA-S Best Bet - The Nasty Rumors. The Austin American Statesman
The Nasty Rumors are three snotty kids who grew up to be snotty adults. They all suffer from horrible allergies but are too poor to seek proper medical attention so they shove Vicks Vaporub up their nostrils and blow their noses on stockpiled fast food napkins. Needless to say, this has wreaked havoc on their collective love lives at formative stages of their youth, which has directly contributed both to their love of nerdy power pop and to much of the autobiographical source material for their teenage angst ridden rock n roll anthems. Hey, when mommy and daddy don’t want to pay for therapy, you gotta deal somehow, right?
Various roads led Phil Ajjarapu, Dave Wirth, and Jared Jackson to meet in Austin, TX, but the circumstances of mutual friends led the three to each other where they learned of common influences such as The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Queen, Jellyfish, The Raspberries, Superdrag, Brendan Benson, Radiohead, and other numerous torch keepers of melody over a breakfast of dim sum.
Fans of many genres, The Nasty Rumors feel compelled to bring their brand of fat trimmed rock n roll with rich harmonies to America, the internet, and beyond where they fear it will be perfunctorily ignored, but having had very little luck with the ladies, they believe that they are sufficiently callous enough by now to not give a fuck whether you like it or not, because they like their own songs enough for all of us. Besides, you’ll like it, unless you’re a cyborg or have shitty taste in music. Still, if you manage to not like it, they might cry a little and just blame it on their allergies.
