Services include: Hotline Talk to a trained staff person anonymously for information, safety planning, and support. Safe Home Confidential emergency shelter for 1-14 nights. Advocacy Support group, and advocates who can help with safety planning, court accompaniment, information, referral, and assistance accessing other social/legal/medical/housing services. Organizing/Outreach Community education through workshops, trainings, and events. Newsletter, website, and educational brochures. Partner abuse is a recurring and chronic pattern of behaviors where one person tries to control the thoughts, beliefs, or actions of their partner, someone they are dating or someone they had an intimate relationship with. Partner abuse is also called domestic violence, battering, and/or intimate partner abuse. Those who abuse may use a number of behaviors to control their partner including: Emotional Abuse: verbal abuse, lying, undermining self esteem, humiliation, monitoring whereabouts, threats, and/or intimidation. Physical Abuse: pushing, hitting, punching, choking, withholding medications or hormones, sleep deprivation. Sexual Abuse: rape, forcing sex and/or sex with others, exposure to HIV or sexually transmitted infections. Economic Abuse: controlling money & resources, forcing to live above means, stealing, identity theft. Cultural/Identity Abuse: threat of outing partner
Who I'd like to meet:
Volunteers Safe Home Providers Community members needed statewide to provide 1-14 nights emergency shelter in their homes. A sleep sofa or a spare room will be a safe space for someone fleeing abuse. You provide some emotional support and meals in the evening and we will work the person on their immediate needs and future plans. Training, supervision, 24-hour emergency back-up, and a daily stipend are provided. Hotline Assist callers with emotional support, safety planning, and advocacy. Each shift in 1x a week for 6 hours and you do not need to come into an office—you can answer the hotline from home or school dorm. Advocacy Assist with court, legal advocacy, and provide support to safe home guests and other folks we are assisting. Provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and safety planning on the hotline. Outreach & Education Flyer and table at events and Pride. Develop new materials including brochures and manuals. Solicit, write articles, copy edit
