The New Affliction signals a new beginning...and it's more deadly the second time around…
The New Affliction begins with the collapse of the New Jersey metal band Delian League, which had achieved widespread success through unmatched musical skill and relentless performances. The group garnered high praises from Metal Maniacs, Metal Hammer, Aquarian, and was voted one of the top 10 unsigned metal bands of 2006 by BW & BK. However, the band could not maintain its frantic pace and split up in 2006. Despite the setback, guitarist Rich Broadhead, bassist Shane Boulos, and drummer Joe Dooling continued on. Boulos extended his talents to the New York hardcore band Sicks Deep, while Broadhead and Dooling recruited guitarist Mike O'Neil to begin working on new material. In late 2006, the four musicians began writing together and created what would be the groundwork for The New Affliction's sound: heavy, guitar-driven, melodic songs that were both cohesive and concise. The experience gained from Delian League lent itself to a more focused vision for the band. "After Delian League's first album was released we still had another album's worth of material," says Broadhead. "This newer material was more mature and more focused on a modern sound. With Mike's inclusion into the band and with his heavy influence by bands such as Unearth and All That Remains, he took the sound a step further and helped develop it into something more modern, yet still unique." As the rehearsals became more serious, the as-yet-unnamed band realized it needed a vocal presence to finalize the music it had worked so hard to create. Auditions started in early 2007, and the band found exactly what they were looking for in the form of Chris Delaney. The powerful lineup of Delaney, O'Neil, Broadhead, Boulos, and Dooling proceeded to write throughout the year, continuing to evolve and streamline the sound that is now known as The New Affliction. The band hit the studio in late 2007 to record its pummeling 5-song demo, "Before the Body Gets Cold." On the demo, Delaney touches on several recognizable themes including fear, loss, frustration, sadness, and redemption. Broadhead and O'Neil shred their way through complex and catchy arrangements, while the rhythm section, anchored by Boulos and Dooling, keep the songs driving forward. The band effortlessly transitions from heavy to melodic, keeping the listener transfixed on every beat and note. Now, The New Affliction looks ahead and is ready to bring forth this energy to live audiences everywhere....to spread the addictive sound of everything these artists have worked so hard on over the past year and push forward to reach as many ears as possible. "There is still a lot of work to be done so we will perform extensively and promote these songs everywhere we can" says Dooling. "In 2009 we plan on going back into the studio to begin production on our full-length album and expand on the story that begins with our demo." Through all of the experience, persistence, talent, truth, emotion, and layers of intensity of these five musicians comes a bold new stamp on the world of metal...The New Affliction.

“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”
