"The New Frontiers might surprise you with music that's sincere and wise beyond its years. (4 out of 5)" - Paste Magazine
"The debut album by this Texas quintet is a calm pleasure. There is nothing extravagant in the simple piano- and guitar-led songs herein, just understated but satisfying melodies wrapped up in a mature songcraft. Never resorting to melodrama or grandiosity, The New Frontiers have instead created an album that engages without gimmick or shtick. Just good songs." - Under The Radar Magazine
"To all of those who are waiting for Whiskeytown to get around to recording that long-promised reunion album, it's probably not going to happen. Never fear, No Depression back-issue-collectors: the New Frontiers are here to prescribe your alt-country Paxil. The Dallas-based crew, led by singer Nathan Pettijohn, produces a melodic sound that has as much grit under its boots as it does ambient atmospherics in its backdrop. Searing guitars, soaring vocals, and a winsome sense of melancholia -- in other words, perfect for road trips and rainy days alike." - Spin.com
"Overall, I can say with a clear head that with Mending, The New Frontiers have probably created one of the best albums I have heard in the last few years. (9.4 out of 10)" - AbsolutePunk.net
"If you like your indie rock more on the accessible side than the arty side, than The New Frontiers' Mending is one you should really pick up. It stays grounded with a plethora of solid melody and stays on the edge of being epic without ever going overboard. This is a band that does not depend on volume, but uses every instrument to maximum effect. I count myself lucky to have stumbled upon this one." - Yahoo! Music
"Pop and rock hooks mingle with pedal steel guitar as singer Nathan Pettijohn's graceful wail hovers over the proceedings like a ghost at a New Orleans funeral. Songs such as "Black Lungs," "Walking on Stones" and "Spirit and Skin" are dense and, indeed, epic performances filled with just the right amount of angst and sonic sheen." - The Dallas Observer
"The New Frontiers proved why it is often a good idea to get to the show before the headliner: you may just discover an uncharted territory of music that is far better than the old world sound you were so attached to. The New Frontiers played a brilliant show and they should certainly be explored by all who want something more, something different, and something simply damn good." - LA CityZine

I got mending when it was released, and I still listen to the whole thing, start to finish every so often. Such a rare thing to have such staying power. Just did that today, and wanted to say once again: you're missed....
You have some of the greatest music I've heard. I've tried to find bands that sound like you guys, but coming up with dead results. You have such a unique sound. It's amazing.
