The New Mystikal Troubadours began as a way for Dave and me
to get together, enjoy each other's company, and jam out a little bit.
We connected -- initially -- through Alex Strama's MT6 Records label,
sharing bills together around Baltimore.
In conversation, we found that we had much in common in regards to musical influences
(particularly John Frusciante's " Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt"),
and we also shared an affinity for the home-recording process.
We agreed to get together for a couple of one-off recording sessions
at Dave's place at dates in the future, and then the months passed.
Eventually, we got together in March and June of 2009.
These songs were very much written and recorded in the moment.
The genesis for each of these songs was improvisational,
and it amazed me how differently -- directionally-speaking --
we'd take these tunes dependent upon the feel of the prior take.
Very much so, this is a mood record that -- I think -- is
best suited to teenage boys who remember a time when
Kula Shaker was on the radio and there was a certain Magik in the air.
