**************************************************
The Passengers are Angie Pepper, Jim Dickson and Jeff Sullivan.
With just a hand full of gigs they blazed a trail through the Sydney pub scene only to break up when Angie’s marriage and move to the USA intervened. What was all the fuss about? Why has their only recorded material (a demo!) appeared in every major compilation of the Sydney scene? The answer is PASSION, and YES they still have it!
They are performing this time out as a three piece, vocals, acoustic guitar and bass.
The sound is as powerful and passionate as ever. Angie’s voice is captivating. She has been described by Aretha Franklin's producer Arif Mardin as having a "most special voice". Jim Dickson freed from the confines of the hard rock bass lines needed for Radio Birdman and New Christs shows the exquisite sensitivity and feel that he was born to play. Many will remember Jeff as the guitarist and songwriter from the Flaming Hands. He plays an acoustic guitar with a distinctive rhythmic percussive style that creates a sound scape that has the audience believing that there is indeed an invisible drummer on stage. The lyrics will draw you towards places you have never been before. If you missed them the first time around you must not miss them now.
SOME HISTORY...
The Passengers were born from the Sydney inner city punk culture in 1979. They were the first band released by Phantom Records. "The Phantom label began some time after the shop with a single by the Passengers in early 1980. Taking their name from an Iggy Pop song, the band was fronted by Angie Pepper, and also included former Survivor and future New Christ Jim Dickson on bass with Jeff Sullivan on guitar and Steve Harris ..boards. Peppers vocals and the sixties girl-group nature of the lyrics made an instant comparison to Blondie inevitable, but Harris electric piano sound was substantially different from Blondies farfisa approach." From www.nkvdrecords.com/phantom_records.htm Their one and only album "The Passengers" (in its original form) is available from REVENGE Records (France) http://www.limbos.org/indies/revenge-lp.htm To listen to some tracks go to www.myspace.com/theoriginalpassengers - Thanks to Jess Burgmann for the "wrestle cat".
