Influences
The bands influences are quite diverse and too numerous to mention, basically it's everything punk/mod and English & Scottish ( Our drummer )
Sounds Like
Sounds like you're going to go deaf if you see us live !!! We're sort of old school punk ( before '80 ) with a slight razor sharp mod edge to it ( but not too much ) but still angry. See us live & make your own minds up
The New Subterraneans are an old school punk outfit dedicated to bringing the original sound of punk with a tinge of mod back to the fore. The band formed in the autumn of 2001 in Stoke-On-Trent.
Having remembered punk the first time round, we feel more than qualified to present our form of old school punk to an audience. On stage our personas can be described as workman like, as the music is quite intense and abrasive not to mention very very loud live ! ( I've had people say to me that we are very loud considering our age ) !
Our set consists of mainly original material with one or two obscure covers thrown in for good measure. Our sound has it's roots in '76-'77 era but with a 21st century way of thinking. We like to think our sound isn't cultivated or contrived in any way, it's the way we like to think we might've sounded had we formed in '77.
We have done numerous gigs in and around the Stoke-on-Trent area. We have ventured outside Stoke on the odd occasion. We've also had the honour of having supported legendary bands such as The Vibrators, Vice Squad, 999, Spear of Destiny & the mighty Hugh Cornwell.
At present we are hoping to go into the studio to do more tracks for a CD when the opportunity arrives. We hope you get the time to listen & comment. If you're a Stoke resident then look out for our gigs. Ta & all that
Tee hee... A up Baldy. Nice to be back. Of Course I will be NEW SUBBING on the 13th. My birthday is on the 15th, so I will use your gig to get the masses out n about. It's about bloody time anyway, Slackers. xx
Hope not hate is Searchlight's campaign to counter racism and fascism in elections and beyond.
Over the past few years the British National Party has seriously contested council elections all over the country and now has 55 councillors at district/borough level. The BNP is now concentrating all its resources on the European election, in the hope of getting Nick Griffin elected to the European Parliament in the North West and possibly achieve MEPs in the West and East Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber as well. Once there, they would link up with other European fascist parties, to gain international influence and, above all, funding beyond the BNP's dreams.
At Searchlight we want to make sure that people know the full story about who the BNP are and what they really stand for. The HOPE not hate website aims to do just that, serving the anti-fascist movement and providing up to date news, good practice and analysis.
