About me: Nexstep is a soul/funk r&b fusion band and the brainchild of cousins Greg Evans (percussion)and Darrell "TheJeep" Braden(bass). The band was formed in 2002 and would later add Niecy Evans, Gregs sister, at lead vocals. The three come from a musical family that has produced other musicians to note. Famed drummer Melvin "Big Mel" Webb ( LTD, Bloodstone, Gap Band,) and guitarist Harold Braden (Ink Spots) were other family members who made their mark. And, making their mark is also the intention of these guys. Thats why their jazz influenced funk and soul is a real crowd pleaser. Appearances with Gerald Albriet, Buster Brodie and BET Comic View Revue have left audiences wondering. Who are these guys? That's because these guys have been pretty low key providing the background for other artist or just being that great sound that many club owners or event promoters would have booked to provide the back drop for their functions because these guys deliver. On a now burgeoning Kansas City music scene Nexstep is ready to take it to the next phase. Even though Niecy has since left the group the guys are currently recording a new CD with a new vocalist on leads and the group plans much more visibilty nationally in 2008/2009.
