This is written by Edward Dun. It says it all... For those of you who haven’t yet caught a performance by the Ni Project, don’t miss this chance to see one of the city’s improvisational supergroups. Slightly hyperbolic perhaps, but how else do you describe this trio of Sacto collaborators extraordinaire—Ruben Reveles (MothSpyEros), Alex Jenkins (Kairos Quartet, Nada Brahma Music Ensemble) and the ubiquitous Ross Hammond? The Ni Project layers samples and synth-pads with improvised and often polyrhythmic guitar and percussion lines to create a tight, free-jazz-cum-electronica-by-way-of-Northern-India aural experience.......................................................
Sacramento's Ni Project is a free improvising trio combining free jazz, electronics and trance with North Indian Classical influences. Together they have shared billings with Nels Cline & Jeff Tweedy, Joe Satriani, Steve Kimock, Victor Wooten, Good for Cows, Keller Williams and Tony Passarell.
Their self titled CD is available on Evander Music (www.evandermusic.com).
Hi guys, thanks for the request.
Real nice sounds! You know what's funny? About twenty years ago I was a sound engineer on a European tour with Ravi Shankar...
The sounds and sights still linger through my head. You brought it up again. Thanks!
Hey kids,
Thanks for finding me.
Really dig the music here.
Hope I make it out to Sac
this summer and check you
guys out live. Are you going
to be around late July? I'd love
to see you play live.
Loved your stuff ! I am a DJ at indieradiolive.com and would like to play your tunes there for sure. I am from Brazil and believe or not, NI was my nickname during 10 years of my life... Coincidence ?
I don't know... hehehehe
Here are some of my tunes to download if you want http://music.download.com/goyamoon
