formed the band in Portland, Oregon in 2001. First practice was September 11th @ approxiametley midnight...
"We encourage coming to terms in recognizing the endeavors to prevent further actions of polluting our environment. We acknowledge our collectivity with the human brains' capacity and potentials to adjust alignment. We represent work with respect to the Classical term of 'catharsis'; performing to enlighten people to empathize with all existence. Historical references to the common human strife are to be Judiciously protected. Our universal focus is actively searching for more contemplative artistic reflection . We can support the perpetual action in our connective change with the environment a part having the capacities for progress. Instead of condemning individuals while denying their capacities of having the abilities to change; we can question through constructive criticism the actions and prevent the pollutive mental conditioning. However, with lyrics in music we have to consider that perhaps lyricists' have written works reflecting another person's view not literally their own. In transcendence, our band is called The Nooses ?... nooses are literally used to groom animals... sometimes knots of hair/fur pull at muscles and may be uncomfortable for furry pets. The addition of the question mark to our band name was a choice made after more racist acts of harassment (the public hanging of nooses). Our intention is to liberate Women and Minorities histories of the nooses and their usage with the poetic transcendence( having named the band The Nooses(?)). Currently... Females also considered Minorities have been inhumanely executed( publicly hung) for having been raped. Rape is a crime and the victim should not be punished. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."- Martin Luther King . I, Dawn Ananda Hulton, recommend going to www.StopChildExecutions.com to take action. How can people make change without defending freedom of speech to support the history of Minorities that had been censored in schools for so many years????? We believe it's high time people understand our objective to bring people together and reflect ... just how bright we'd like your experience to be: audibly, sensually, and visually as we light up the joints . We appreciate any and all feedback."

(From the Philadelphia Weekly)
The name may scream doomy punk, but the Nooses craft lean, shambling post-punk that funnels fury into jagged melodies. Frontwoman Dawn Ananda Hulton formed the band in Oregon and brought it with her to Philly, where she's picked up players as needed. Dawn's jumpily cute vocals and politically minded lyrics are the lifeblood of the Nooses, who pulled a Half Japanese and debuted with a double album. The serious subject matter doesn’t mean these songs aren’t fun, though. “Demilitarization” is a playground of recurrent yelps and tinny rhythms, and “Wanna Play?” finds Hulton chirping “do re mi fa so la ti do” like a giddy kindergartener. It’s charismatic, arresting stuff. (Doug Wallen)

(FROM PHILEBRITY.COM)This here press release says something about The Nooses being “ex-Ink & Dagger,” but in this town, throw a rock and you’ll hit “ex-Ink & Dagger.” But what got us was the fact that this is the new band from Dawn Ananda Hulton — do NOT call her by her last name, we have it on good authority she’ll kick you in the nuts — and if Philly ever had a line on a female-fronted rock band that is crazy and amazing (Cat Power crazy, people), The Nooses might be it. We’re getting shades of Huggy Bear, Chicks On Speed, Autoclave and more, all at once...
