Upon forming the group in the fall of 2005 under the name Set Forth, vocalist and songwriter Steve Melton began experimenting with the idea of taking the pop/rock style and reinventing it using jazz and funk fundamentals. Teaming up with Ryan Buller (guitar), and Marc Teets (drums), the band found their groove and has seen recent success, with its single “Crazy” in constant rotation on Denver radio station 93.3 KTCL and a prime slot on Mile High Music Festival.

In April 2009, the band changed their name from “Set Forth” to “The Northern Way” to eliminate confusion with other bands of the same name.

Using an impressive mixture of catchy hooks, soaring vocals and contagious lyrics, combined with melodic guitar work and creative grooves, The Northern Way appeals to a seemingly infinite demographic. Whether playing an intimate acoustic performance or to a fan-filled arena, The Northern Way continues to increase its ever-expanding fan base.

"Splitting the difference between the Heyday and the Fray in its more upbeat moments, [The Northern Way] is the most radio-friendly of the bunch...If writing obscenely accessible pop is a crime, [The Northern Way] should get the chair."
-Dave Herrera, Westword

"...an incredible band that combines vocals that remind me of Gavin DeGraw but with a powerful full band sound that takes the music to a whole other level."
-Ira Miller, Emerge Music

WESTWORD

“Seriously, this video looks like it should be in heavy rotation on VH1's top 20 countdown within the week.”

--Cory Casciato/Westword

THE DENVER POST

“The labels that are interested in the Northern Way are major labels," said Schwartz, the group's manager and president of Bleemusic Inc. "They hear the songs, and they see the potential for those songs to become hits outside of Colorado.” --Brian Schwartz

"...The Northern Way is more of a Hot AC or pop band than an alternative-rock band, so that also gives labels a warm and fuzzy feeling — that 'Crazy' can do that well at alternative. You have to imagine what it can do elsewhere." --Brian Schwartz

--Ricardo Baca/The Denver Post

THE BERTHOUD RECORDER

“TNW’s hit song “Crazy” has been buoyantly cycling the local airwaves. The emergent Colorado music scene is definitely a great motivator to this burgeoning band, being both competitive and supportive.”

--Dani White/The Berthoud Recorder

THE BRANDING IRON

“It’s really been an exciting ride in so many different ways,” Melton said. “Having a band for a week and then playing at such a huge benefit was just amazing.”

--Andrew Call/The Branding Iron

THE GREELEY TRIBUNE

"The Northern Way, whose hit “Crazy” has been on radio station playlists for most of 2009, will take a step closer this Saturday when they perform on one of five stages at the second annual Mile High Music Festival."

--Staff /The Greeley Tribune

THE GREELEY TRIBUNE

"A sizable cheer rose from the crowd as they hit the stage, proving a lot of people were there specifically to hear them play. From the first note on, the crowd was engaged."

--Pete Heacox /The Greeley Tribune

THE REPORTER HERALD

"Steve Melton of modern-pop rockers Northern Way said he is “excited to be part of a festival creating such a national splash."

--Terry Hayden/The Reporter Herald

THE COLORADOAN

"...at a time when The Northern Way's success is closely mirroring The Fray's. After getting radio play on Channel 93.3 - the band's single "Crazy" is in the station's regular rotation..."

--Stacy Nick/The Coloradoan

5280 MAGAZINE

"The Northern Way, which competed in the Hometown contest last year, landed a gig at July's Mile High Music Festival thanks largely to the station's [KTCL] repeated spinning of its single "Crazy," a catchy plaint about the wages of thankless devotion."

--Luc Hatlestad/5280 Magazine

CRAZED HITS

"The station put local bands like The Fray, 3OH!3, Tickle Me Pink, and Flobots on the map. Is this the next one?"

--Alex Wilheml/Crazed Hits

MILE HIGH MUSIC FESTIVAL

"They may be, at the moment, playing a series of local clubs up and down the Front Range, but, soon, they hope to spark some nationwide attention, beginning with a set on July 18 at the Mile High Music Festival."

--AEG/Mile High Music Festival

THE SCENE

"...the straight-ahead drumming, light-but-still-atmospheric guitars, smooth bass, and crisp piano lines all come though with a clarity usually reserved for Maroon 5 records rather than bands from Northern Colorado."

--Nathan Harper/The Scene Magazine

COLORADO MUSIC BUZZ

"...what now has become known as The Northern Way shot out of the gate running at full-throttle and shows no indication of slowing down any time soon. The collective agreement amongst the band is to make the best of this business and grow the band as an entity and take it to the next level..."

--Charlotte D Aberrant/Colorado Music Buzz Magazine

CBS CHANNEL 4 NEWS

"...with a sound that merges classic rock themes with soul vocals and alternative riffs. Even given the acoustics of a basement studio, I found myself completely captured by the music, especially the tune, 'Crazy'"

--Greg Moody/CBS Channel 4 News

THE GREELEY TRIBUNE

"Greeley band The Northern Way, formerly Set Forth, is getting Colorado's musical attention..."

--Dan England/The Greeley Tribune

WESTWORD

"If writing obscenely accessible pop is a crime, Set Forth should get the chair. Radio-friendly? Hell, these guys might as well send BFF pendants to program directors with copies of their four-song debut..."

--Dave Herrera/Westword

WESTWORD

"Set Forth hit the stage playing a remarkably tight set that seemed to take place in some other strange alternate universe, one where singers can sing and musicians can actually play..."

--Thorin Klosowski/Westword

WESTWORD

"Splitting the difference between the Heyday and the Fray in its more upbeat moments, Set Forth is the most radio-friendly of the bunch..."

--Dave Herrera/Westword

WESTWORD

"Set Forth absolutely brought down the house with their obscenely tuneful Maroon 5-inflected pop. But that wasn't the show stopper. Those kids...certainly know their way around a tune. Their dead on -- and I mean dead freaking on -- rendition of "Let's Get It On" floored the crowd..."

--Dave Herrera/Westword (In regards to The Westword Music Showcase 2008)

5280 MAGAZINE

"The appealing mix of catchy hooks, careening vocals, and contagious lyrics combined with melodic guitar work gives Set Forth a feel reminiscent of Maroon 5..."

--Brian Roundtree/5280 Magazine

NEXT NC

"Set Forth has a rich and mellow pop sound that resonates with a variety of listeners around northern Colorado, along the Front Range and throughout Denver..."

--Erin Frustaci/NEXT NC

EMERGE MUSIC

"...an incredible band that combines vocals that remind me of Gavin DeGraw but with a powerful full band sound that takes the music to a whole other level."

--Ira Miller/Emerge Music

POEM OF LIGHT

Beyond your eyes exists a world
That all can learn to see
Within this world exists for us
Infinite possibility

Many are lost in darkness
And cannot find their way
Because they choose to believe the lies
They hear from day to day

The future's yours the future's yours,
If you open your mind
Discover what you do not know
And greater truth you'll find

You and me and everyone are all beings of light
We can all live in harmony,
If we increase our sight,
Open your heart open your mind,
And see your path anew
The greatest joy in life will come
From Loving Being You!

Love all of life's Creations
Take time and you will grow
To know the truth and see the light and all you wish to know
Your energy creates life and knowledge is for sure
Come know yourself,
The universe,
And So Much, So Much More...

GLAD TO BE YOUR FRIEND, HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL AND AMAZING DAY. STRIVE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEBODY'S LIFE TODAY, YOU'LL FEEL AMAZING AND REAP GREAT BLESSINGS!
