Who are the Nouveaux Honkies? Well head down south on the east coast of Florida and you might run into them in the town of Salerno. This small commercial fishing town is the stomping ground of singer/guitarist Tim O’Donnell and violinist Rebecca Dawkin after she moved down there in 2005 from South Carolina. Put in the mix Mike Burney (bass) and Phil Ori (drums) and you have the unmistakable sound of this roots/blues/country band. The group started touring after their second album “Where Do I Go” hit the market in 08’. After a run to Montana and Idaho that summer the album made its debut on the Roots Music Report, “Roots Country” charts at 14. After 33 weeks, “Where Do I Go” hit 3. Blues Review Magazine linked the sounds to The Stones, with hints of Dire Straights, Curtis Mayfield, Hendrix, and Wolf. O’Donnells vocal style was said to be “an amalgam of Van Morrison and Willy DeVille”. Violinist Rebecca Dawkins crafts her lead lines over popping rhythms and their unique blend of blues, swing and country becomes the sound that fans describe as a reinvention of the musical wheel.
The group is currently on the road doing shows mostly in the southeast, sharing the stage with acts like Joe Bonamassa, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Waybacks, and this summer will be at Sunfest in West Palm Beach, Roots and Rhythm Festival in Rhode Island, Low Country Blues Bash in Charleston and many places in between. Their new album “LIVE at SUN” was recorder in Memphis Tennessee in February 09’ and will be released in May 09’. They are also putting the finishing touches on the songs for their next LP.
