The legacy label Nu Groove Records was re launched after an almost 10 year hiatus. Original founder David Chackler decided to revitalize the legendary label, reacquiring the rights to the NuGroove name from his prior partners who had acquired the company in 2004 from Chackler, and two years later shuttered it... ..Originally the home for smooth jazz icon Michael Lington, and format bending “Down to the Bone,” Nu Groove had launched some of the biggest acts in the format, and the name had remained synonymous with “smooth jazz on the edge." It had become the benchmark label for aggressive, funky, and non traditional smooth jazz music and acts, and the image remained. So in late 2006, David Chackler, in conjunction with Adam Levy (N coded Records), and the folks at Red..Sony Distribution, decided the industry was ripe for Nu Groove to rise again, and represent the progressive “edge” of smooth jazz, and urban adult music. .. ..Over the past decade Chackler had stayed active developing successful acts and music for other labels he founded. During this time he launched the “Rare Requests” series, which is the most successful smooth jazz compilation series ever released, and now is in its fifth edition. Chackler also worked with the legendary Daryl Hall to release his one and only solo album, which spawned three top 10 singles, and re established the smooth jazz chill sound of “Soul Ballet”, with two Top 10 singles. During this time Chackler also worked with keyboard star ..Bob Baldwin.., and Bassist ..Michael Manson.. to create broader bases for their already burgeoning careers. .. ..With the past ten years in the rear view mirror, Chackler, and company have re established Nu Groove's prominence with their very first release. ..Jay Soto..’s “Stay Awhile” album, and single “Slammin’” have already catapulted into the Top Ten as this is written, and new releases by Bob Baldwin, and Michael Manson are set to be released in early 2008. The label has stayed true to its history of developing new acts by signing star producer, turned saxophonist ..J. Dee.., and released his initial CD “Tippin’ On The Edge Of Funk”, which is hurtling up the charts, and in conjunction with genre superstar Nick Colionne, he has signed the seminal Chicago group ..Lake Effect... This group was the launching pad for Michael Manson, Steve Cole and others, and now they are stepping out on their own Nu Groove release entitled “Brighter Moments”. These acts along with ..Machan.., ..dee Brown.., ..Dave Sereny.. and others form the new core of Nu Groove. j.dee, the sultry, funky, smooth, soprano saxohponist, has done it again. There are no limits to the music he creates. He always brings something for everyone, from his R & B Instrumentals “It’s on and Crackin” and “Let’s Walk”, to smooth jazz numbers “Coast Rollin’ “ and “Smoove On The Move”. There is no style of music that he will shy away from as evidenced in his song “Yawdbird” and his version of Stevie Wonders “Don’t You Worry Bout’ A Thang”. His first CD, “Tippin on the Edge of Funk” displayed his smooth jazz abilities balanced on the edge of funk. Calling j.dee phenomenal is an understatement. He doesn’t limit himself to playing the saxophone: he writes, produces, arranges as well. He has worked with many artists and relishes the project he did with the THE late and THE great, Grover Washington, Jr. He wrote and played several songs, giving HIS flavor to movies such as Losing Isaiah and Original Gangstas. j.dee has been given a gift and he is always ready, willing and able to share it with the world. I guarantee you, this CD will remain in your player only until his next one is released.

Time Stands Still is a luscious reflection on 14 of the most mesmerizing melodies of all time. Sommers was inspired to embark upon this sentimental journey after completing his 2004 Christmas album, A Holiday Wish. “What made doing that album so special,” Sommers shares, “was doing songs people already knew and loved.” This dreamy disc stretches from standards such as “Georgia On My Mind” (in memory of “The Genius” Ray Charles), “Besame Mucho” and a bossa nova take on “Fly Me to the Moon” to more modern gems such as “You Are So Beautiful” (dedicated to its late composer Billy Preston), Norah Jones’ Grammy-winning “Don’t Know Why” (buoyed by piano and harmonica) and Carlos Santana’s burning bolero “Europa,” which Sommers masterfully reworked into a modern alternative from the classic ..70s recording by Gato Barbieri. All of the music was arranged by Hollywood jazz and session veteran Bill Cunliffe and highlighted by three guest vocalists: soul-pop crooner Eric Bene’t (singing the Judy Garland signature “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”), traditional pop veteran Gloria Loring (mother of recent chart-topper Robin Thicke who graces the sexy Peggy Lee fire-starter “Fever”) and newcomer Dena Deadly (a singer Sommers discovered on all-powerful MySpace who sings the Etta James chestnut “At Last”).

Brazilian guitarist, Torcuato (tor-QWAH-toe) Mariano - who cites the legendary Jeff Beck as a primary stylistic influence - is a guitar master in his own right with an outstanding pedigree in the rich world of Brazilian Jazz. After winning the Sharp Prize (the equivalent of a Grammy award) as Best Pop Composer and spending several years as one of the most sought after guitarists in his adopted homeland, he went on to perform and record with a virtual “Who’s Who” of Brazilian music. He’s played and recorded with singers Djavan, Gal Costa and sax great Leo Gandelman, and has toured with Sergio Mendes and Ivan Lins. Some of his songs are still among the most played tracks on “Smooth Jazz Radio”. His newest release on NuGroove Records, “So Far From Home” featuring Michael Lington among others, looks to be his biggest and best yet.
