"In 2004, The Otherhalf began modestly as a band of school mates performing covers and starting to write original material. Phil Hodgetts and Dan Hammond-Smith had been playing in various band line-ups throughout their school life together. Shortly after this, Hammond-Smith made the decision to switch from bass to vocals and guitar, they hunted down Sean Hines and he became the first member to join.
The band enjoyed local success, however it was strictly recreational (with the obligatory adolescent hopes and dreams of the future of course!). Additional members left due to University commitments, and in 2006 The Otherhalf found themselves at a crossroads. Cue the introduction of guitarist Mike Forbes who Hodgetts had known from small part time jobs in the band's hometown. In this radically changed line-up, the band found a new lease of life and focus. New original material came in abundance and influx of gigs and new opportunities followed as a result. Over the years, the band have played regularly in the south of England, travelling to London and beyond.
Diversity is the driving force between Hammond-Smith, Hines, Hodgets and Forbes. Differing music tastes, opinions and styles all combine and bounce off each other to create The Otherhalf's own brand of indie rock. This is a band that thrives on their own creative differences - a unity of variety. Although they all share the same desire to succeed and to wear their hearts on their sleeves (testament to their electrically-charged passionate live performances).
This is only the beginning of a long journey, stay standing or take a seat, either way we would love you to be a part of it."
"Southern rockers The Other Half came up from Bournemouth (respect!) to play in Leicester. Wow, what a good band. They stormed through a set of amazingly strong songs, fronted by star Dan Hammond-Smith who also pumped out some thrilling virtuoso riffs on the guitar. The band rocked the Shed! Bassist Sean Hines dealt out some incredibly deft finger work on the strings and Phil Hodgetts kept up an Olympic level of work on the drums. Quality vocals and compulsive songs left the audience cheering and calling for more. The Other Half are a thoroughly enjoyable band who know how to play top notch rock music and we hope they will appear again in Leicester very soon" - Leicester Music Review
