Influences
EVERYTHING, in all it's fine and slender apparitions that are constantly becoming whatever they become before becoming something more, becoming all.
And while i rely faithfully upon the anomolies of the situation to render new opportunities, yet always uncertain in form, always the wind blows, and in the growing howl of it all I can never remain in a fixed form.
Apparent is the canyon when one stumbles upon it.
"Melodic folk with an emotional appeal which draws listeners into their own inner workings" - Hartley
Listening to a voice deep within the guitar, within the music itself, a shy kid got into music and its creation, finding that the only constant was change in a domain as yet unexplored. Later in life a quiet guy jammed in his van by the beach, the ashes of a campfire smouldering in the sand, and contemplated life....
Drawn towards songwriting from an early age, Knox began performing original material in cafes as a singer/songwriter, eventually forming The Olly Knox Experiment, a two piece original folk band, with percussionist Patrick Brennan in Gisborne. They became known for their peaceful, melodic folk and in July 2005 the garage studio album "Themes" was recorded and released in July 2005 under Gisborne sound engineer Luke Porter's label Mutant Frog Records but never mastered.
An introspective journey through past experiences laced with the mystical and divine, the ambient acoustic drives pave the way for the searching and soulful meaning behind the songs.
In the years following, Knox travelled through parts of Australia, the United Kingdom, and western Canada where he lived in Nelson BC . With an acoustic guitar and Themes, he continued to play and spread his message in the global community.
Returning to NZ in April 2008, Knox initially moved back to his hometown Carterton a move which saw a reunification of the Knox/Brennan lineup for a short while, but the ever restless Knox moved again, this time to the far north. The move brought him into contact with drum and bass engineer Stu Wordsworth who eventually came to master the long-kept songs of Themes, and with some earlier recordings produce The Unified Theory Of Existance, a cut back selection of recordings.
Now calling home the small Northland town of Dargaville, Knox has together with guitarist Pete O'Neil and drummer Kenny Glamuzina, formed folk rock band Little Fish, and working on material for upcoming album planned for release in the summer.
heya, just a little note to say we got this debut album thing released on monday! we'll be out playing in March/April, hope to catch you then... x a. s. z. a
Sounds wicked, hope to see you next new year, perhaps. (en shallah) Perhaps we can tour together (?) can you give us any venue or festival names/locations? We're pretty up on our submissions and can hook it up for us both.
sweet as! i've heard good things about cubase, i'm looking into a basic edirol interface that my mates got, if he doesn't sell it to someone else tomorrow i might pick it up...we'll see, he's had it for ages though so i wouldn't want it to crap out. i'm going to get logic so that i can make some sick midi beats, will probably rent some mics and pre's over the holidays cause marce is heading out so i'll have the space alone to record. i'm really stoked you're getting a clear sound..that's the most important thing...check out jose gonzales..you probably have already..he's great, very clear, bare bones tunes but they cut to me deep. so are you going to come and rock the 2010 olympics then?

Hey Ol! Sorry I couldn't make it to your gig, spent most of the night in the studio and the rest of it being hassled by a huge security guard because she couldn't read the booking sheets properly... Would have much rather been at the gig!

Hey dude. Looking forward to meeting you tonight. You'll be playing after Thom McArthur and Joe Walsh, then followed by Tendergroove. I'll be a bit late to sound-check, but Chris (one of the other gig organisers) will be there at 6. See you soon! Patricia MASC
