Humanists working to do good. Working with others.
The 'O' in the O Project is what you are left with when you take 'god' out of 'good'.
In other words, it's about how you can live a good life without following a religion (but not about 'converting' people to atheism). Whether you are an atheist, agnostic, humanist or call yourself some other name, this project seeks to dispel negative images people might have about you as being in some way amoral. It has two goals:
1. To champion the contributions that humanists and other non believers make to wider society in the fields of social justice, equality and human rights.
2. To promote good relations and cooperation between believers and non believers
You can visit the O Project website. It includes a regularly updated mediawatch section, quotes, suggestions of things you can do and some high profile examples of atheists who have made contributions to social justice.
You can also join the O Project group on Facebook.
Who I'd like to meet:
People of any faith or none who:
a) Believe you can live a good, moral life without god
b) Think that religious and non-religious people should cooperate to address common problems
Apologies if I don't get round to thanking you for: being part of the project. Every bit of interest and support is really appreciated. I will always reply to messages though.
Do you support the aims of the O Project?
Do you believe that it you can live a good life without God and that believers and non believers should create alliances to tackle shared concerns?

“If there is no God, why be good? Posed like that, the question sounds positively ignoble. When a religious person puts it to me in this way (and many of them do), my immediate temptation is to issue the following challenge: ‘Do you really mean to tell me the only reason you try to be good is to gain God's approval and reward, or to avoid his disapproval and punishment? That's not morality, that's just sucking up, applepolishing, looking over your shoulder at the great surveillance camera in the sky, or the still small wiretap inside your head, monitoring your every move, even your every base thought.’”
