FIVE BANDS, ONE NIGHT
Crespo will put concert online
By Alec O’Meara aomeara@hippopress.com
Boston-based singer-songwriter DAve Crespo (that’s not a typo, it’s an uppercase A) is putting together a multi-band concert at the Merrimack VFW for this Saturday, Dec. 8, with the hopes of using the event to help launch a new online medium for promoting local talent.
Crespo plans on recording the concert and presenting it as streaming video on his Web site, The Opsercian, in January of next year. “Opsercian” is derived from Crespo’s last name backwards.
“It’s something that I had tried to do once before a couple of years ago, but it never came together for whatever reason,” Crespo said. “This time it’s going to work the way I want it to.” One of the reasons Crespo gave for believing in success this time around is improvements in recording technology over the last two years.
Crespo says that the Merrimack concert will be the first concert in state and second overall he will be recording, the first of which was done in Boston on Dec. 1. Crespo believes that online concerts represent a new way for a band to promote itself, and he is optimistic that his site will be at the forefront of the trend. The Web site is expected to go live on Jan. 1, 2008, and the concert will be on the site as part of the launch.
Crespo released his own three-song CD, Crespo, in June of this year. The young singer’s music focuses on day-to-day living and finding the joy and pain in life’s little things. Crespo is also planning on releasing a full-length album in 2008. He describes his own music as “touching the pulse of what happens underneath the skyscrapers,” and song subjects have included the Red Sox and subway fares.
Four other local acts aside from Crespo will be performing. Seconds to September, a two-man band hailing from Rochester, will be leading the evening of pop-alternative acts off with 30 minutes. They will be followed by Safer by the Shore, a newly forged band fronted by former solo artist Brian Sweet.
Crespo’s own band will play third, and popular jam local jam bands SOAK and Singuya will cap the night off. Each band is expected to deliver a 20- to 30-minute set.
The concert, called the “Bringing it to the People Rock Out Show,” will be open to all ages and will begin at approximately 8 p.m.
