Bio
jo says: so for me, our band was born of a time and place and that was sf in 98. though eric of course, had recently moved to the east bay from DC. we went beyond where we came from and what we knew to create something totally new to us. it was exciting. it was fun. it was challenging. it was beautiful. we weren't political as a band but we were personally and for me, social activism and dissent was my life and infused my life with passion and inspiration. our friends were artists and activists as well and their work moved me and inspired me all the time. we didn't sound punk at all but we were always punk in my mind. 100% DIY! our own label, cd's, etc. and then most of our music came out of nowhere in the form of 30 to 45 to 60 to 90 minute jams in the basement of 23rd and Potrero. Most of which the world will and should be spared. But the freedom we had to experiment and create sound collage and music and noise was at its best the realization of zen mind / three minds acting as one and at worst crap that hurt to listen to. BMC is an incredible drummer whose dynamics and beat versatility would regularly blow me away while eric's solid, mellow, melodic and driving bass lines sounded so sweet. I struggled a lot to find my place in the midst of sound and still wish i was a better, more accomplished guitarist. But I love what we created. I still love to listen to the albums but nothing will ever beat the jams. There were always some missing pieces that we never figured out and then I decided to become a zen organic farmer and split rather suddenly. So we finished Hibernation amidst sadness and hurt feelings and frustration at the thought of spending the time and energy to produce a record for a dead band. but we're not dead yet. viva option d. love, jo -
