The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes celebrated its tenth anniversary season in 2006.
The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes is one of America's outstanding professional symphony orchestras. Drawing talented musicians from throughout the region to perform five concerts in Elmira and Corning, NY, the Orchestra fills the bill as the premier symphony orchestra in New York's Southern Tier.
The Orchestra is the principal ensemble of Corning-Elmira Musical Arts, Inc (CEMA), an organization that comprises more than 150 musicians and music lovers and sustains the region's only youth ensembles, the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Junior String Ensemble, as well as an outstanding community chorus, the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes.
The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, a fully professional regional orchestra of the Southern Tier, provides inspiring performances of all the major orchestral repertory. The OSFL is a gem of the Southern Tier.

The start of a new era… it's time to find our new inspiration. During 22 years of growth under Maestra Marietta Cheng, we created many wondrous performances. Now it is time for us to find our new inspiration. How will we change? Where are we headed now? Will our hearts and minds be touched? Come be a part of our new direction. With a season of guest conductors, come voice your thoughts, show your support, and tell us how we can inspire you…
Be inspired by the Orchestra. Each concert this season will be designed by its guest conductor. Will our guests relax you, reconnect you, or awaken your spirit? Orchestra aficionados enjoy romantic evenings, introductions to the classics, reminders of forgotten works, ear-opening new favorites, and solace from their life's routine. Come be a part of our community's own first-rate, professional symphony orchestra.
The theme is inspiration as we start our new era… Who will be your favorite conductor? Who will program your favorite selections to enjoy?
We are proud to present a wealth of talent, experience, and enthusiasm to you, our patrons, for the 2008-2009 Season. Italian Conductor Raffaele Ponti, current Conductor with the Rochester Sinfonietta and the Toscana Opera Festival, will open our season on October 5, 2008. His program will include the outstanding pianist Andrew Armstrong. The former Principal Conductor of the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera in Germany and current Conductor and Music Director in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Geoffrey Moull will join us in November as we feature our Concertmaster, Augusto Diemecke, in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5. A community favorite, Messiah, will be performed in December. December will also mark our much anticipated return to the Clemens Center and feature our chorus and orchestra, conducted by Fitzroy Stewart, beloved former Conductor of the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. Toshiyuki Shimada, Music Director Laureate with Maine's Portland Symphony Orchestra and Music Director at Yale University, will perform with us in March 2009 and share his favorite selections while also highlighting the Winner of the Hertzog Soloist Competition. On May 3, 2009 we'll finish our exhilarating season with Antonia Joy Wilson, the newly appointed Artistic Director & Conductor with Midland Symphony Orchestra and Director of Orchestral Studies at Central Michigan University, who will welcome accomplished cellist Amy Sue Barston to join her.
Come, join in the excitement. Show us who your favorites are. Participate in the journey as we start a new era and join us in deciding what is next for The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. Anticipate what will be next in the 2009-2010 Season…
