Started in 1993 by Matt 'Blackie' French things started off quite simply. Blackie wrote the songs that would become the debut album 'Live to Rock / Rock to Live'. Taking songs from the ashes of his former band, The Vipers. A band which enlisted future bandmate, Brett Levac. But at this time Blackie was recording all of the instruments. 'Live to Rock / Rock to Live' was released in November of '93. Not to wait around too much Blackie started writing for the follow-up. It took nearly a year and a half to write and record but in June of '95, 'Too Hot to Handle' was complete. Soon after in '96 came the album 'Call of the Beast'. After this Blackie felt he needed some people to collaborate with. So he called upon former Vipers bandmate Brett Levac to come on as rhythm guitar and Jason Fetterly to come and join on drums. The trio rehearsed for nearly 6 months and on November 23, 1997 the first live show by 'The Original FRENCH' was held. After the success of that show they started recording the first album to feature the new lineup. 'Second Coming' was released in September of '98 and contained such songs as 'Wild Young', 'Looking at You' and a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Suicide Solution'. After a while Brett started getting frustrated with the direction of the band and left. Trying to find a new lineup Blackie and Jason recruited Jason's brother Kevin on bass and mutual friend Neil Dendler on rhythm guitar. This was a short lived lineup but in that time they released 'Back to Hell' in December of '99. Soon after the release the band broke and went into a 3 year leave. But in 2002 conversations with Brett Levac started up and talk of going into a higher calliber studio and re-recording some of their favorite songs started up. So they started work in Serenity Studios with multi platinum producer James Phillips. They spent a full year working on the album and on December 6, 2002, 'Rock Never Dies: The Best of 1993 - 2003' was released. The band rehearsed and improved their skills. They also started going in and re-recording all of the old albums to improve the quality of the recordings. In March, 2005 a new member was added. Bassist Justin Rowe was added to the mix but shortly left due to time constraints. Also on March 2, 2005, the band received it's first radio airplay thanks to Rock 101.9FM in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. A DJ named Jimmy Kalaitzis showed enough guts to put a song that many thought would never see airplay due to it's over 7 minute length. But on that night at 9:00 pm 'Looking At You' hit the airwaves. After the departure of Justin Rowe, lacking a quality bass player Brett decided to make the move from rhythm guitar to bass. Currently they are re-recording their classic 'Back to Hell' album and writing new material for the first album of fresh material in over 6 years.
