I AM Culture, a clothing line created to embody and spread the Gospel through fashion.
Everyone is their own person and individually we all have the ability to create who and what we will become in life. I AM Culture acknowledges’ and understands that through the word of God each person has the power to express their God given talents. Most fashion is designed to showcase the designer and exploit trends in culture. I AM Culture is a fashion line designed to allow the wearer to illuminate themselves through God’s word.
In 2005, the creator of I AM Culture worked as a music producer and in an effort to produced artist not just vocalist he labored to create an image. One that would include personalized style through fashion for each artist. Nev (“Steven”) quickly discovered another natural talent within himself.
Wanting to create a fashion line that would give him an edge over the competition Nev started designing sneakers with a very provocative branding. This seemed like an easy way to get ahead of the competition and quickly add money to his bank account. Not realizing how quickly he sold out he pressed on with his plan. Armed with the knowledge that sex sells and his desire to create a controversial product he researched the word sex and the last description in the dictionary read poor mans polo. Accepting this as a definitive description a logo was created showing a side view of a man and a woman copulating.
This sex filled image was designed to arouse the fashion community but the media as well and promoting this product and its notorious logo became paramount in Nev’s personal quest for success.
July 2008, was the start of NevzKicks.com it just so happened that and around the same time this Fashion Artist started noticing the numbers 3:16. “Everywhere I looked, everything I did in every situation I would see 3:16 or some combination of the number.
The company Nevz Kicks and what was to be a ticket into the fashion world became a nightmare. Even with several radio interviews, news articles and websites advancing the company and its image it seemed the harder I worked the more my wheels were spinning out of control”. Although, good intention found its way into Steven’s heart and he worked to bring awareness to the exploitation of teen sexuality and pregnancy the entire business was a bust. Nevz Kicks shoes and sneakers were created for the wrong reasons and its methods proved to be erroneous.
It was on December 24, 2008, while on Christmas break with his family Steven was touched by the true love his son held for Christ and inspired to change his path thus his conversion began. “In that moment I needed to redirect not only my company but my life to Christ. One day while using the Bible as a reference I found myself reading Exodus and the answer the Lord gave to Moses I AM that I AM convinced me that I must re-dedicate my life to Christ and spreading The Word to everyone. I re-read significant scripture and verse from the Bible; rediscovering the New Testament offers Jesus in narrative as I AM to all and in all things. In an effort to be as accurate as possible I began researching I AM and my desire to understand this phrase not only in its biblical reference but its modern day connotation and its personal position in my life helped to genesis I AM Culture.”
Following a path that has changed direction Steven’s purpose remains to spread the good news through his own God given talent. Even when his vision was clouded towards the destiny set forth, God used his past circumstance to reveal what was always there; the ability to provoke the right-mind of those around him and speak the truth to all.
