25 years together, The Undecided started out playing parties and school dances around their hometown of Alton Il. back in the Mid 1980's. Over the past 25 years they have recorded 5 studio albums and released 3 of them. They enjoyed a National Radio Hit in August of 1994 (Down By The River). The Undecided has performed in clubs and outdoor stadiums opening for some of rock's all time greats like Motley Crue, Poison, Great White 2X , Kansas, Rare Earth, BTO 2X , Ratt, L.A.Gun's, Foghat, Pat Travers, Head East 2X, REO Speedwagon, Jefferson Starship, Type O Negative, ELO, Greg Kinn, Brewer and Shipley, Cheap Trick, Peter Frampton, Eddie Money and many more. Over the years they have influenced many local area musicians, raised over $250,000 for different charities and was even credited for the inspiration to build the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater in 2009. Thanks to Alton's mayor Don Sandidge Sr. and The Undecided Downtown Alton Illinois now has a 6,000 Seat concert theater constucted at the original location of the FIREWORKS ON THE MISSISSIPPI site wich was started by Sheri Bond and The Undecided almost 20 years ago. First things first before we tell the story of The Undecided we must thank the Radio Stations that have kept playing their music throughout the years. We want to thank WQCY QUINCY IL., WMOS QUINCY IL., KCCQ AMES IA., KFBD WAYNESBORO MO., KSKG SALINAS KS., WJAT SWAINSBORO GA., KLBQ EL DORADO AR., WKPQ HORNELL NY., KKEZ FORT DODGE IA., KKBJ BEMIDJI MN., MLIS PALESTINE TX., WIFX JENKINS KY., KRQU LARAMIE WY., WINN COLUMBUS IN., KDLK AND KDTR DEL RIO TX., WLVY ELMIRA NY., WJCK,WIRX,KFMC,W-ZOO,WAVT AND SO MANY MORE WE CAN'T POSSIBLY LIST. THE UNDECIDED"?" was formed on July 4th 1985 by Matt Williamson (BASS GUITAR), Tim Brooks (LEAD VOCALS), Scotty Robertson (DRUMS) and Don Sandidge II (GUITAR). In August 1985 Singer Tim Brooks left the band and Don Sandidge II took over lead vocal duties. The Undecided continued playing 3 piece for a while but in the spring of 1986 they added Paul Steinbrueck a well seasoned lead guitar player. Keyboardist Mike Lombardi was also added as the fifth Undecided member that year. In Jan. of 1987 Matt Williamson Bass player and founding member left the band and moved with his family to Mississippi. Tim Palen joined for a short while on bass, Brent McCarty played extra guitar and keys,Boris Kussmanoff also played keys for a short period from 1987-1988. Tom Pullen and Mike Lombardi would end up joining THE UNDECIDED full time. The Undecided traveled hundreds of miles every weekend around the midwest performing live from 1987-1989 singing their songs with tons of moral and financial support from Donnie's Mom (Sheri) and his Dad (Don Sr.). In 1987 while the boys were still in High School their song SPELL ON ME was a runner up in the Missouri Song Writers Contest. Spell On Me jumped on the local radio stations like WLCA, WSIE and K-SHE 95 ST. LOUIS receiving alot of airplay. Late in 1989 change would come once again. Mike and Tom decided to leave the band so they could go to college. After about 4 months of searching for another bass player,The Undecided hired Steve Tinnon and went on without keyboards. Two years later founding member Scotty Robertson left for drum School at P.I.T. in Hollywood California. In 1991 JR Engle was spotted in a St. Louis classified add and jumped in as the new drummer. JR had just graduated from P.I.T a few years earlier and was the perfect fit. From their the band went right to the studio to record some new material and then took off on the road playing every show they could get booked. The Undecided sometimes played 5 or 6 shows a week traveling hundereds of miles between gigs. In 1993 manager Dan Pearsons took the ball and ran with it. The money was raised by investors to record another album but this time it would be printed and released on an independent label. YOU TAKE YOUR ROAD, I'LL TAKE MINE was recorded March-May 1994. The Album was released in June of 1994. The 10 song CD became one of the biggest selling albums overnight in the midwest. The single "DOWN BY THE RIVER" became the number one most requested song on the local radio stations in Illinois and Missouri soon after going national. Brian Myles and Simon Will of 99Q WQCY of Quincy Il. were the first to play Down By The River on their program. Later that year they received the golden ear award for their discovery. YOU TAKE YOUR ROAD I'LL TAKE MINE took off like a rocket selling faster than any other album in the St. Louis area that summer reaching number 1 on the St. Louis Spot Light Magazine's album sales charts. The album stayed at number 1 for 5 months straight and remained in the top 10 for almost a year. Soon after Down by the river won the Missouri song writers competition and ended up in a National Radio magazine called THE GAVIN MAGAZINE. Down By The River was placed at number 93 on the Top 100 most played song's in the entire country on radio reaching higher than Eric Clapton, Shawn Colvin, Notorious BIG, Janet Jackson and Joan Jett. Down by the river would go on to hit number 1 in 13 major radio markets from coast to coast airing in regular rotation on over 5,000 Radio Stations. During the bands HIGH TIMES from 1994-1996 they performed with major acts like Motley Crue, Kansas, Jefferson Starship, BTO and Great White just to name a few. In December of 1994 their first single hit number 78 on the WQCY FM Quincy Il. radio stations top 100 of the year. In 1996 the boy's signed a promotional/Development deal with Bill and Sally Jerome two national promotors out of Atlanta Georgia. They spoted Down By the River on the national radio charts and wanted to help the boy's sign a recording contract. In March of 1996 they packed their bags for Nashville to finish the next album with hopes of signing a deal with Capricorn Records. After the huge success of the first album alot of different record companies started to show some interest in the band. The new CD was recorded and mastered by Mark Beihl and Benny Quinn these guys were the big time. They had worked with Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, The Blues Travelers and many others. The band was really excited about the new project. May 1996 was the release date for TOO LATE NOW. It was released in the Midwest but before it was released across the country the band ran into some legal problems along with other personal issues. Going on the road to promote the new CD was called off! After all the years of hard work there was no getting out of the mess they had ran into. Non stop party's, Drug's, alcohol, women, money problems, bad contracts and buisness deals would soon tear the band apart. In 1997 the band had no choice but to go seperate ways. Donnie and Paul continued performing under the name (The Undecided), writing, recording and producing other artist's CD'S around the St. Louis area and the huge buzz created by their first album started to die down. In 1998 Paul and Donnie regrouped the lineup from the late 80's for a reunion and it was a smash hit. They sold out the only 2 shows they played. In 1999 Donnie was selected number 1 out of a group of area musicians to perform live with the Band POISON at ROCK STOCK 1. Donnie performed the song Every Rose Has It's Thorn with the band that night in front of a sold out St. Louis RiverPort Amphitheater. The Undecided continued recording and performing shows and released a 3rd album. UNDECIDED III came out in June of 2007 and the sales have been great. In 2009-2010 Donnie, JR, Steve, and Paul will be Performing LIVE and at this time the boy's are working on a new album. Let's Rock on for another 25 years.
