What kind of acts do you guys book?
- A little bit of everything, really.. from funk to metal to jazz to folk to hip hop and everywhere in between.. We also book dance/performance groups and troupes as well as the occasional poet/spoken word act.
What kind of slots are available?
-Usually we are booked 2 or 3 months ahead at any given time, but inquiry is the best method if you yearn to grace our stage sooner rather than later..people cancel. We are open every Sunday at 7pm music starts at 8 and sets are generally in 40 minute intervals ending near midnight. Our current calendar can be reviewed on our website. We occasionally host shows on other nights, depending on availability..
Does it pay?
We are a nonprofit, volunteer-staffed venue and as such do not pay performers (proceeds go right back into the cause in the form of better equipment or the lush atmosphere or to charity). We do, however, encourage acts to come hungry and grab a plate and we try to record each set and give the bands a cd, technology willing. Selling merch is permitted (we encourage bands to promote themselves).
We also rely on bands to populate the space, so Bring a crowd!

About me:
The Orphanageis an independent performance venue, coffeehouse, and gallery run by an arts collective on Chicago's South Side.
The space is volunteer-staffed and not-for-profit; its mission to enrich the community by providing a unique and welcoming atmosphere to the public whilst "providing an outlet for creative personalities and seekers".
