The Theosophical Society in America's Interests
General

Serving Humanity

There are various ways of diminishing suffering. There is pain in the soul that only soulfood can still, but there are also problems that require real life help. The TS is specialized in giving people soulfood.

The Theosophical Order of Service helps people in need. It was there when Katrina hit, it played a huge part in the disaster after the Tsunami in Southern India, and has programs all over the world to alleviate hunger, help animals and provide education to the poor.

About me:

Vision - Mission - Ethics

The Theosophical Society in America:

has a vision of wholeness that inspires a fellowship united in study, meditation, and service. encourages open-minded inquiry into world religions, philosophy, science, and the arts in order to understand the wisdom of the ages, respect the unity of all life, and help people explore spiritual self-transformation. holds that our every action, feeling, and thought affects all other beings and that each of us is capable of and responsible for contributing to the benefit of the whole. Not only does the Society have a vision of union with one another, and a mission of exploration, but also an ethic of putting these high ideals into action.

We invite you to explore with us and join us in the great adventure. Membership in the Theosophical Society is open to those who are in sympathy with its three Objects.

Activities

The Theosophical Society in America has activities locally and nationally. The national activities are often recorded in live webcasts.

The national center at Wheaton Illinois has regular lecturers, chi gong classes and more.

Locally the TS is organized in lodges and study centers. Don't get intimidated by the word 'Lodge' - it just means a group of people that get together regularly.

Books & other publications

The Theosophical Society publishes books and DVD's on all kinds of esoteric subjects. Buy these books through Quest Books.

There are some great recordings of lectures by theosophical speakers. These are often for sale, but some can also be downloaded in MP3 format.

Who I'd like to meet:
H.P. Blavatsky, Col. Olcott, Annie Besant, C.W. Leadbeater - and all who work for more peace, love and understanding between people of all backgrounds, races and religions.

From the moment you leave home, practice mindfulness, keeping bodhicitta constantly in mind by thinking continuously, “The purpose of my life is to free all sentient beings from suffering and bring them happiness.” Think like this with everybody you see— This is the secret to enjoying life, to living a happy life in a meaningful way without allowing your ego to cheat you.
After a few years of meditation practice we can even learn how to occasionally ignore ourselves. And what relief that can be!=)

Everything in the Universe, throughout all its kingdoms, is CONSCIOUS: i.e., endowed with a consciousness of its own kind and on its own plane of perception.

Everything that is, was, and will be, eternally IS, even the countless forms, which are finite and perishable only in their objective, not in their ideal Form.

~H.P.
Blavatsky(1831-1891)

Dear Friend,

Hope this finds you well.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Peace, Health and Happiness!
Love, Light, Grace and Bliss!

Think of the mistakes you have committed during the course of the day, just before retiring to bed (self-analysis). Keep a spiritual diary and self-correction register as Benjamin Franklin did.

Never hurt anybody. Control anger by love, forgiveness and compassion.

Do not be offended by trifling matters. Cultivate an amiable loving nature and adaptability. Admit your faults if they are pointed out by others. Eradicate them and thank the man who points out your defects; then only can you grow in spirituality and meditation.

Look within. Try to remove your weaknesses. Many old vicious habits will have to be cut out. Remove the defects of self-justification and of self-assertive nature.

Do not become a victim of anger. Control it by forgiveness, love, mercy, sympathy, continued positive thought and consideration for others.

Never worry yourself on any matter. Be always cheerful. Love all. See your own Self in all. Be honest in all your dealings. Have a balanced mind always. Turn your mind towards God. Sing His name. Thirst for His Vision. Be sincere at heart. The Divine Grace will descend on you.

"Shall there not be as good a 'then' as 'now'?
Haply much better. . . Therefore fear I not;
And therefore, Holy Sir! my life is glad,
Nowise forgetting yet those other lives
Painful and poor, wicked and miserable,
Whereon the Gods grant pity! But for me,
What good I see, humbly I seek to do,
And live obedient to the law, in trust
That what will come, and must come, shall come well."
-- LIGHT OF ASIA, Bk. 6.

Happy White Lotus Day! :)

Dear Friend,

Hope this finds you well.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Peace, Love, Light, Grace and Bliss!

Find out the Beauty of beauties, which is within you, which is your innermost Self. Real beauty is in the Self only. Real beauty is undecaying and eternal. The Self is the source of all beauties. His beauty is everlasting and undecaying.

Do not be deluded by external appearances. Go to the source, the Self, the beauty of beauties, the everlasting beauty.

Nothing can bring you peace, but the victory over your lower self, triumph over your senses and mind, desires and cravings. If you have no peace within yourself, it is vain to seek it in external objects and outward sources. If you can rest in this ocean of peace, all the usual noises of the world can hardly affect you.

If you enter the silence or the wonderful calm of divine peace by stilling the bubbling mind and restraining the thoughts and withdrawing the outgoing senses, all disturbing noises will die away. Motor-cars may roll on the streets; boys may shout at the pitch of their voices; railway trains may run in front of your house; several mills may be working in your neighbourhood - and yet, all these noises will not disturb you even a bit.

If Christians lived by the Sermon On The Mount, if the Buddhists followed the Noble Eightfold Path, if the Muslims truly followed the teachings of the Prophet, and the Hindus shaped their life in accordance with the teachings of the Lord, of saints and sages, there will be peace everywhere.

Dear Friend,

Hope this finds you well.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Be Healthy, Happy and Spiritually Blessed!

OPEN my heart, O Lord, to Your law and teach me to walk in the way of Your commandments. Let me understand Your will. Let me remember Your blessings—all of them and each single one of them—with great reverence and care so that henceforth I may return worthy thanks for them. I know that I am unable to give due thanks for even the least of Your gifts. I am unworthy of the benefits You have given me, and when I consider Your generosity my spirit faints away before its greatness.

A man who loves You and recognizes Your benefits, therefore, should be gladdened by nothing so much as by Your will, by the good pleasure of Your eternal decree. With this he should be so contented and consoled that he would wish to be the least as others wish to be the greatest; that he would be as peaceful and satisfied in the last place as in the first, and as willing to be despised, unknown and forgotten, as to be honored by others and to have more fame than they. He should prefer Your will and the love of Your honor to all else, and it should comfort him more than all the benefits which have been, or will be, given him.
~ Thomas A Kempis

Dear Friend,

Hope this finds you well.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

You may possess sublime sentiments and noble intentions. But when you have no self-control you will be a slave to baser passion. You will succumb to every temptation and commit endless wrong actions. You want to lead a spiritual life but due to weak will, lack of self-control you fail.

Self-control leads to the highest merit. It increases your energy and is highly sacred. Through self-control you will be purified of all your sins, and thereafter you will acquire the highest blessedness. A self-controlled man should equip himself with nobility, calmness of nature, contentment, faith, forgiveness, patience, fortitude, endurance, perseverance, absence of egoism, absence of talkativeness, humility, simplicity, love, reverence for elders, benevolence, mercy for all creatures, frankness...

Every sort of excitement is quietly controlled by self-control. The self-controlled man sees his numberless enemies such as lust, desire, anger, etc., as if these dwell in a separate body. He is devoted to universal benevolence. He never feels animosity for any one. He is tranquil like a calm ocean. He is wise and ever cheerful. He is endowed with intelligence. He never fears any creature and is feared by no creature in return.
