The OTHER SIDE vintage emporium opened its doors on March 1, 2000 by 3 swanky divas (mom, daughter, and daughter-in-law). We opened up on the "other side" of the Patio Shop and since then we have moved into our new location in HISTORIC RAILROAD SQUARE ART PARK on April 1st, 2005.
Filled to the gills with 3,500 square feet of funky furniture, home decor, vintage clothing and jewelry, collectibles, what nots, etc. brought to you by a family of wonderful dealers and finders who travel all over the U.S.A. to find you treasures galore!
"Every time I come to the Other Side (formerly funky junction) in Railroad Square, I get this homey feeling. Maybe my family is just a bunch of packrats. I think I'd most attribute this to the friendly staff and the the feeling of rummaging through an aunt's closet or attic and finding really quirky vintage stuff. And stuff is the right word, because they have two rooms full of clothes a small closet full of books, and then a huge open warehouse area full of everything from furniture to miniature teacups to vintage dental tools to a box full of mismatched chopsticks (well, you might not find that because I bought it). The staff is usually willing to negotiate a sticker/tag. This is a great stop if you're gallery hopping on First Friday or if you're garage sale shopping on a weekend morning....or if you just like vintage weirdness, consignment shopping, searching for a diamond in the rough, or simply like artifacts - both loved and mistreated - of someone elses life before today."
Here is the article in the Democrat about THE OTHER SIDE:
One guy's junk...
When Kehren Barbour of Funkshun Junkshun decided to head west to San Francisco in April, she didn't so much close her popular Railroad Square emporium as pass it on to friend and fellow independent business owner Zan B. It's now called The Other Side, the name of the business Zan started on Tharpe Street next door to her brother's business The Patio Shop. Like Funkshun Junkshun, The Other Side is chock-full of "swanky junk," funky furniture, retro art objects, vintage clothes and accessories and more.
According to Zan, who shares shopkeeping duties with sister Brooklyn, the clientele is as mixed as the store's inventory. State employees, high-school students, college kids, hippies, punk rockers and just plain folks stop in to eyeball the ever-changing displays. Some bring pets such as dogs, birds, iguanas and snakes with them. Zan said she knew she'd gotten the unofficial seal of approval when elderly pussycat Addabelle, the unofficial Railroad Square mascot, started hanging out at the store.
Zan is an enthusiastic booster for her Railroad Square neighbors and a member of the Independent Business & Community Alliance. The Other Side also participates in First Friday events in conjunction with the monthly tour of art galleries.
The Other Side at Railroad Square is open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Call 224-6666, and check out the groovy Web site at www.TheOtherSideVintage.com.

Spring is here and so are the butterflies! This week I have a gallery of a particular group of butterflies called Brushfoots. Brushfoots are the most commonly known and encountered of the large colorful butterflies (excluding the swallowtails) found in Florida and the Americas. These include the monarchs, fritillaries, buckeyes, and the viceroy below (who has nearly identical markings as the toxic monarch butterfly) to keep it from being eaten by birds.... cool trick, huh? :-)
Click the butterfly below to see my gallery - and please let me know what you think!
