| About The Others |
|
The Others came about initially as a duo in 1963. Ian (Nancarrow, founder and still the Pan of rock!) quickly turned it into an electric combo, joined by Jeff Gurr on bass, who has never left. Over the decades the band has just about done everything a band can and should do and still get away with. Few close calls tho.
No bullshit old school rock. Nothing soft here - this is roots music from a different plantation, played by guys who were there when the seedlings were first popping up. At the recent Thredbo Blues Festival we were described as being "big boy's music" and that kind of sits ok with us. Still playing, still writing and recording and still doing it all for the right reasons, we won't be going anywhere.
"Jammed tight and sweating hard, the fevered throng at the East Coast Blues Festival let The Others know that it was well worth their long road haul up from Adelaide. Like the Stones, whose record of longevity they share, these r&b titans thrive in an environment of immediate contact, feeding off the energy and driving it upwards with hot, hard, stinging licks and a blues sensibility born out of an implicit understanding of the music's essentials. After more than 40 years at the coalface they are the masters who inspire the apprentices." Glenn A. Baker, writer and music historian.
Just about sums it up nicely.
Enjoy.
