Headlight is West Michigan's Grateful Dead tribute band. The band was originally formed as Grüv Unit in the summer of 2004, and was renamed Headlight in March 2006 after a lineup change.
Headlight's 5-piece lineup consists of the trio of D. Adam Estner, J.D. Jones and Jim Prange, who also play together in Scatterdome & The Insane Theatre, and who have played together in The Red Pill, The Blue Pill, and Black Rose & The Disciples of Funk; Nate Karnes, a former member of Ultraviolet Hippopotamus; and Mike Sullivan, who also plays with Potato Moon (a.k.a. The Lonely Jones), Karisa Wilson, and The Southpaw Players.
Currently, Headlight is on hiatus. Nate has moved to California, but there is the possibility of random future shows when he comes back to visit, or random shows as a 4-piece band.
Meanwhile, Gruv Unit has reformed with original singer "Westside" Al Waldron and original drummer Kevin Grant, and has been playing frequent shows in the Grand Rapids / West Michigan area; at most of their recent shows, D. Adam Estner, Jim Prange and occasionally Mike Sullivan have sat in with the band.

So for the next couple of weeks we are pushing our support for local bands and musicians who will top our friends list! Get out to see live music, go check out somebody else’s band. Learn something new from another act, and make sure the Bars and Promoters know LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER!
