About me:

I am a writer and comedian.

I grew up in Jersey.

I perform at comedy clubs, the Edinburgh Festival, and at theatres with my own shows which include Much Obliged, 10 Arguments I Should Have Won, Misplaced Childhood and How To Be Cool. I've also supported acts such as Ardal O'Hanlon, Johnny Vegas and Ricky Gervais.

You can also visit my website, where you can watch the films from "10 Arguments I Should Have Won" and "Misplaced Childhood" in the "Clips" section, as well as some footage of me in The Thick Of It, in which I play inept Tory researcher Phil Smith. I have written for various tv and radio shows with my writing partner Roger Drew. We were the main writers on Time Trumpet

Rog is also a brilliant illustrator - we have a book out, The Joy Of No Sex which you can buy here.

We also do a PODCAST for GQ.

The Radio Four series Will Smith Presents The Tao of Bergerac is on cd now.

My new Radio Four series "Will Smith's Mid-Life Crisis Management" goes out on Wednesydas at 18:30 from Dec 17th to Jan 21st. Or you can catch it at the BBC's Listen Again

And my book "How To Be Cool" is also out. Take the Coolometer test here:

Ah. Talk about a good day! The 'techy' stuff through the morning went smoothly, quickly and without a hiccup, an impromptu lunch gave us the delights of 'random-ingredient' savoury pancakes, after which the morning post turned up (some sort of Reardon-esque rant should surely go there) with two tickets for...

WILL SMITH's 'MIDLIFE CRISIS MANAGEMENT'.

Woo! So we're coming along on the 5th. Looking forward to it!

Mr Smith,

Picked up the Tao on CD today but to my dismay the cover read that it is the complete radio series as opposed to the complete first series.

No chance of a second series then?

The other night, at about 1:30am, while I was cleaning up 300 zip-loc bags that had burst and scattered all over the street that I live on, I thought about the time we rode the train from London to Liverpool. I don't know why, but I thought I'd let you know. I hope things are going well for you. By the looks of your schedule and new book, it looks as though my hope's a reality. Cheers, Joel.

Advert!

Annus Horribilis

Mistakes, mishaps, cock-ups - they just aren't given the recognition they deserve. They make life interesting and human beings (some more than others) have a genuine flair for them. So why does history only record the world's dull and worthy achievements? "Annus Horribilis" sets the record straight by celebrating good old-fashioned failures. From the man whose spectacular escape from prison was spoiled when he was eaten by a crocodile to the husband who choked to death on his own wife, via several exploding whales, numerous celebrity meltdowns and countless predictions that proved to be wholly inaccurate, "Annus Horribilis" proves once and for all, that there's no success like failure.

Of course, a horrible irony will come if the book falls on its own arse. Horrible because I'll have to remain poor. So please! Run out and buy it!

I was listening to Johnny walker on radio 2 with a glass of morgans and somehow I let the programe merge with Alan Titchmarsh's one. This was lucky 'cause he played the theme tune to Bergerac, a classic, up there with the Get Carter music!

So I was strolling around Waterstones in Manchester last Saturday, browsing through the comedy section for Richard Herring’s book, when I came across 4, that’s correct FOUR copies of “The Joy of No Sex”. I have recently looked in both the bookshops of York and Cardiff and the search had returned nothing. I bought a copy (along with Harry Hill's new book about the futher adventures of the Queen Mum) and am a very happy chappy indeed.

Hurry up and announce some gigs t’up North.

I went to Jersey for my holidays as usual this year (not a good traveller) played a cracking round of fun-golf at The Living Legend.. and noticed they've changed the name of the Underground museum to 'The Tunnels'

I was a little surprised to see remnants of 'A good old yarn' (knitted scenes and people) exhibition way back from the 80's Fort Regent.. hashed up in a glass case at the Jersey Museum..

One must assume it had been classed as a miracle when it was first seen on display 20 years ago..

What's next 'Micro World'on tour?

Come on Jersey Touriat Board.. it's just not on...

Will! What's going on?! I go away for a few years and now you're bloomin' famous!! I was thinking of resurrecting a few memories of the school reviews ('88 / '89 / '90) but me mum has decided that you are too foul-mouthed ("Not like the little Willie I remember", she said...). So I resurrected them. A friend over here mentioned he's seen so much of your stuff on the telly, he's going to lend me a few DVD things... Hope all's going well, and pass on my regards to Rog, too. Keep it up, and if you're back on the rock at Christmas hopefully we'll catch up.
