In the late summer of 2007, I for some reason caught that country bug that always creeps up on me when the leaves start changing color. This time though, i actually went out and bought a total piece of shit acoustic guitar and would sit in my apartment, and play the cowboy chords till the cows came home.
I wrote the song "if its all the same" in early september on that guitar, and called up my best friend and the best guitar player i know, Chris Brown. We recorded it in one day, and decided to record again the following weekend.
After immediately realizing that we had no material, we looked through some of CB's old words
and came across a little ditty called "DRUGS AND ASHES".. this song, again was recorded in one day.
The songs started just pouring out. Our influences started shifting, as we immersed ourselves in every little crevice of american country and western music. from Hank Sr. to Merle Haggard. Townes Van Zandt to Kris Kristofferson. We were finding new ways to make music that had been waiting to be made.
Then something completely unexpected happened. At exactly the same moment in time, like the stars were finally aligned, and the heavens opened it's pearly gates up to us to reveal something very important. .....We both got a copy of Bob Dylan's epic masterpiece: DESIRE...
These are not all "country" songs. I will very candidly say that this is 100% because of that album. DESIRE... DESIRE... DESIRE... (If you don't own it get it. email us and we'll make sure you get it.)
We had to come up with a name, and you have no idea how hard it is to find a "cool" name for a country band that isn't already taken. I'm serious. think of one and Google it. We ended up with - The Outlaw Radio show - I think it's great but it had to grow on Chris Brown. We also talked about calling it, The Guatemalan Radio, Fidos Revenge, Randy and The Murderers, and the Justin Wood Experiment..
Well.. We started recording every possible weekend for a year, all while balancing a ton of other things in between. Recording a video, swimming, fixing watches, drinking too much coffee, picking locks, eating cookies.. etc. etc...
So this is what we have for you. 15 songs that we feel best represent what we like to call. Chris and Chris present: "The Stranger's only me." By The Outlaw Radio Show. Enjoy.
