Who I'd like to meet:
The Out of the Darkness Overnight will start at 7:00 pm on Saturday evening, with a short, reflective and motivating Opening Ceremony framed by the setting sun. As the Overnight community comes together as a group for the first time, you can't help but be swept up in the excitement and anticipation as everyone prepares to start their extraordinary journey. my husband lost his brother the night of the overwalk in chicago this year. we plan on having a LOT of people join us for this next year and make it a healing journey for his one year death anniversary. we had no idea anything was wrong until we lost him. this whole experience has been such a nightmare and we just want to wake up. i never thought i'd be affected by suicide and i now understand the kind of pain only this can cause.

This year was my first out of darkness overnight walk in chicago. It was a very emotional and road to healing process for me! I met so many wonderful people and made new friends who all understand the loss of someone to suicide!

Your presence here is a shining light in the darkness!

I know what it means to survive. For me, it’s been 20 years since my last attempt, but the “fog” of that time never quite fades. The darkness seemed strongest in my teens, and that’s why prevention and education, like your wonderful work, are so critical!

Peace and Love,

I will be walking in the chicago walk for the first time. I have been batteling depression since I was a teenager. I want people to know that it is okay to talk about it. My great grandma died from suicide before I was born. This has been a hidden topic for a long time and I say NO MORE.

This will be my first time to walk in the Overnight. I'm looking forward to crossing that finish line. I lost my brother in 2001. He was married and had a three week old little girl. We miss him.

I walked in Seattle last summer, a feat I never thought I could accomplish. And I have to say that crossing that finish line is still the proudest moment of my life! Thank you for everything you do to help those of us who've lost someone, and those of us who have spent our lives searching for a reason to live.

Registration is now open.

In 2009, the Out of the Darkness Overnight national walk returns to Chicago. June 27th-28th

We’re planning a beautiful route full of sweeping lakefront views, big city streets and picturesque neighborhoods, supported by the welcoming warmth of the Windy City’s residents.

The Overnight is fundraising walk unlike any other. Starting at dusk and ending at dawn, we’ll walk up to 18 miles, a moving community of thousands of diverse individuals connected by a common goal. Please join our community.

This year, we will make suicide prevention a national priority. And we need your help. By joining the Overnight, you’ll send a loud, clear message, heard from your house to the White House, that it’s time to end the stigma surrounding suicide and shed light on the tragic consequences of depression, substance abuse, anxiety and other mood disorders that, left untreated, can lead to suicide.

I walked in San Francisco 2006 for my late husband who died in 1996. Our daughter attempted in April of this year, but held on. She is the most courageous person I know. We will walk together in 2009 for ourselves, her dad, my late husband, and everyone afflicted with mental illness who live with it and those we were not able. To each and everyone one of you and your loved ones...

I walked in Chicago and San Francisco in memory of my best-friend Chris, and three of my extended family members. The next walk I participate in will also be in memory of my uncle Joe who ended his life last January, leaving behind his wife and infant son.
