The Ox Magnolia is a soft exercise in creating lush, poignant and yet subdued pop music. It is the most recent project of Caleb Gray, who hails from Denton, TX, and several other music prodigys, such as Matthew and the Arrogant Sea and Verulf. The Ox Magnolia has self-released 6 albums, including a split EP with Bob Fante. The latest album, Great Northern, is the most daring to date. Great Northern embodies several sounds, which draw from Gray's other projects, bringing a new voice to the folk music scene. The sound is M. Ward with a touch of Alan Sparhawk, combined with catchy lyrics, which brings us full circle to what Gray says he's been trying to accomplish for years.
Out of a spare bedroom in Welcome, NC and with minimal equipment and the quiet hints of nature here and there The Ox Magnolia has reached it's greatest achievement with Great Northern, and Gray says he will continue recording albums in hopes to someday evolve into a full band, in order to fulfill his entire vision for the Ox Magnolia. Until then, keep an eye an the horizon for continuing growth and great music from the Ox Magnolia.
