   About The Painful Leg Injuries

The Painful Leg Injuries have a new free download album called The Rich Man's Godforsaken Driver's Seat.

To give it a listen click here, or to download it click here. This free album is a collection of my compositions and improvisations made by using the Nintendo Wiimote as a controller for music.

From the moment I first started reading about the possibility, I've been very excited about the Wiimote as a music controller. When I bought one, and got the software and everything working it was inspiring and I recorded many tracks, and these are the fruits of those sessions. The thirteen tracks in this collection combine compositions with improvisations, the conceptual with the intuitive, and noise with melodies. software, soft synths and samplers, a Pushpin Gameboy Color synth as well as my circuit bent instruments such as my Casio Sk1, Speak and Spell. They are 192 kbps MP3 files, and completely DRM free. Flying Through The Eye At An Alarming Time features recorded samples of me knocking my TV with my Wiimote, samples that were eventually played by his Wiimote. This Is Playful For Diseases is made up completely of improvisations with his Wiimote controlled Pushpin Gameboy synth, and Wiimote played samples of the LSDJ Gameboy tracker software, an anachronistic take on Nintendo gear. Michael Winslow Has His Revenge (On Clever Dated References) features a digital instrument completely made from samples of the 80's actor/comedian.

Enjoy and thanks.

The Painful Leg Injuries will be performing on October 20th at Make zine's Maker Faire. We will be performing at 10am at the Tweak Freaks stage. It's being held at Austin's Travis County Fairgrounds on October 20th and 21st. I'm a huge fan of Make, it's an invaluable resource for circuit benders, people who are interested in electronics and most importantly, building things themselves. The Maker Faire is (in their words) "..... a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful folks who like to tinker and love to make things. We call them Makers." Those of you who follow this blog will know that my wife and I (PLI) have recently moved to Austin, Texas, and this will be our debut show in the Austin area. Come check it out.

Now available for free download, a new Painful Leg Injuries album,

The Forever Ending Revolutions on Autopilot

Click here to download your copy.

It has been released on the net-based label Noise Joy. Noise Joy's Alex Spalding does weekly podcasts for OKSRNA. This is our first album of long form compositions. Each of the four pieces are based on sections I composed using the Little Sound DJ software on my Gameboy. These were written during my commutes on the New York city subway. I'd then record them when I get home and write new parts for my various home-made, circuit bent, software based and various other instruments. And after the pieces were built, I wrote cello sections for Suzanne to play. The title refers to the trance-like state I fell into during my commutes. Which I actually quite enjoyed and strangely enough, the daily subway ride is one of the things I miss the most about New York.

The Quicker Are The Encumbered

3" CD-R on Lona Records is now available! There's only 50 copies being printed.
This 6-track collection, is in my opinion, the best music we've made so far. The tracks include :
1) An Ice Cream Truck Flipped Over and We All Got Some
2) The Broken Elevator's Spiral Descent
3) A Life By The High Tension Wire
4) Frozen Caverns Thrive In These Conditions
5)Everything That Comes In Stages Left In A Birthday Hat
6)I Must Listen To That Which Calls Me Back To The Sea

The Quicker Are The Encumbered
is based on Einstein's theory of special relativity, that states that by the time an object has reached the speed of light it's mass would become infinite.
Each of the six compositions on this release explore this notion, adding masses of layered sound with varying amounts of velocity in the music. An Ice Cream Truck Flipped Over And We All Got Some opens the set with abstract noise that evolves/devolves into a jingly swirl that reverses the suggestion of the song title. Everything That Comes In Stages Left In Birthday Hat begins with soft melody played by Suzanne on her cello, with Bill's very warped trumpet, that builds into large dynamic moments.

If The Devil's In The Details Then How How Many Details Can You Fit Upon A Match? The new sophomore full length CD-R (and DVD - R) by the Painful Leg Injuries is now available at CDbaby.com, click here to order! The Painful Leg Injuries have integrated some bold experiments into their established melodic technique to yield an album that is both more experimental and more appealing than their previous releases.

On If The Devil’s In The Details, Then How Many Details Can You Fit Upon A Match? Bill decided to consolidate the approach to make music that was no longer content to stay in the background, a more aggressive assertive sound that grabs hold of the listener’s attention. The Painful Leg Injuries’ refine their soundscapes into a busy, punk-fuelled version of world music from Venus.

Suzanne’s cello appears prominently in the album’s opening track Every Minute of Everyday Someone Is Having An Apocalypse, a taut piece of classically inspired noise that builds to a cathartic release. Bill digs back to his hardcore roots with I Did Not Agree With the Prophets offering up a vision what Lightning Bolt would sound like if they added a laptop. They’ve also integrated several new elements such as Bill’s homemade Sensorlab feedback machines, field recordings, and instrumentation that includes trumpet, kalimba, melodica, autoharp, xylophone, accordian, and homemade rubber band stringed instruments. On A Complete Lack Of Charisma and/Or Talent they layer a simple phrase played on a variety of instruments to yield a dense fog of strangely beautiful sounds.

Also the CD-R comes with our first DVD-R release with six videos directed by Jonah Goldstein, Matthew Lancit, John Ibarra and Bill Byrne.

Bill Byrne is an internationally exhibited multimedia visual artist who performs wildly experimental electronic and noise music as The Painful Leg Injuries, with his wife Suzanne.

The Painful Leg Injuries are about a pure love of sound. Bill combines field recordings, homemade electronics, circuit bent toys and keyboards, classic video game sounds, warped old trumpets, guitars and accordians. He uses unusual techniques including gathering audio data from file conversions of his visual art, and sampling everday sounds on his cell phone. Suzanne plays lovely cellos drones adding a classical sense of beauty. The result is a wall of sound that is aggressive, pretty, alein and comforting. At times it will recall sci-fi and horror sound tracks and at other times droney world music.

Byrne’s compositions display a structure that channels his influences into an ulikely mix. The Painful Leg Injuries merge noise music of Wolf Eyes or the Vibracathedral Orchestra, with the pop ambience of Fennesz and Boards of Canada. Byrne believes that cacophony needs to be earned giving dynamic twists which either build to a shift or take a sudden unexpected turn.

Live, the Painful Leg Injuries deliver a wide variety of dynamic sounds. Bill performs a plate-spinning act of playing his laptop, Gameboy, trumpet, xylophone, circuit bent toys, his Tincanjo (a homemade guitar of sorts, made from an aluminum peanut can and Suzanne’s broken cello strings), ipod, while Suzanne’s cello drives the kaleidescope of sound forward. They include Byrne’s animation video art as part of their live performances.

They’ve recently released their second album If The Devil’s In The Details Than How Many Details Can You Fit Upon A Match? on OKS Recordings of North America, the label Byrne runs with longtime collaborator Jonah Goldstein. They’ve also released a 3” CD-R on Hong Kong’s Lona Records called The Quicker Are The Encumbered. In late 2007 they will be releases full length album as a free download with the label Noise Joy, The Forever Ending Revolutions On Autopilot. Since 2005, the Painful Leg Injuries have been releasing new music weekly as part of the Painful Leg Injuries Podcast available for free on iTunes.

The Painful Leg Injuries are currently based in Austin, Texas. All of their releases are available at oksrecordingsofnorthamerica.com and iTunes.

In 2006, Bill and Suzanne released fifteen compositions as part of the Men In White Coats compilation. They also are planning a new album, a new full length on OKSRNA for early 2008, The Anomaly That Gotten The Better of Me.

Kurosawa is a musical collaboration between Paul Cartwright, Adam Spellicy and Karen Vogt. The result is a graceful collision of soaring, ethereal vocals and lushly atmospheric, infectiously melodic acoustic and electronic sounds.

Hey!

As a friend of Killaflaw we'd like to give you the opportunity of purchasing our uniquely numbered, limited edition CD single 'Revolution' which also includes the much loved 'Holy Fuck' on the B side.

There are only 1000 copies in existence and further copies will be sold without these unique numbers, so here is your chance to own a piece of music history from the LIPA award winning band dubbed by Eddy dance/rock guru Temple-Morris "the missing link between Soundgarden and The Prodigy"

The record is of course also available to buy as MP3 download.

To get your copy go to the following link:

Thanks again for supporting Killaflaw and we really hope you enjoy.

Now available: "Auspices and Vagaries".

"Ever watch a 60’s movie set in the future? The kind where the sets are stark white with oddly shaped chairs in bright colors that don’t look the least bit comfortable, where the cars fly but are roughly the size of pontoons, where people get their meals by speaking into little boxes and out pops a plate with a small, unnaturally colored cube on it? Yes, it all looks futuristic and ultra-modern but it still, without a doubt, is stamped with the impression of an era long past – and it’s still really cool.

BLÆRG’s latest release, a 3" CD by the name of “Auspices and Vagaries” is the perfect score to a meal of Soylent Orange or for a drink at the milk bar. It stirs together bits of futuristic rhythms, strains of jazzy flavor and a splash of retro flair into a wonderful little breakcore appetizer that leaves the palate whetted and the appetite craving more.

This 3" CD-R is hand printed and assembled, and comes with an “Auspices and Vagaries” vinyl sticker. This album is strictly limited to 50 copies. Album can also be downloaded for free in 128kbps MP3 format. This could be the last BLÆRG album for a long time.
