The full origins of PennySerenade have been lost in the mists of poorly insulated windows (although a full biography is rumoured to exist in the pages of a loose-leaf ring binder somewhere beneath the British Museum). Suffice to remark, there are six of them - Stout-hearted Men and Women of questionable temper with impeccable manners. They play an array (hooray) of musical instruments. All their songs are adapted from the works of Angela Spinnet, a late-Victorian poet whose meditations on life as a Coster-Monger on the streets of Bermondsey have fallen into undeserved obscurity. Their first collection ('Spinnet, Like A Record Baby - a tribute and salute to Angela Spinnet') should be finished in March (not this March though).
Ahoy there Penny people... glad to hear you guys are still kicking on, we're back in action after taking a little Indian summer break. We've got a gig coming up at Hoxton Underbelly on 7 Nov - keep up the good work fellas ;)
Friday night was completely fabulous. As usual you totally owned the place and the ensemble on he dance floor of the belly dancing guy, Tap dancing sheep, Jedi and Super-legged Transvestite all giving it some will forever be ingrained into my memory and leave me grinning in fondness.
Can't wait till the next gig. I wear my new badge with pride
Thanks a lot Andy. The new demos are sounding great. Looking forward to seeing you play live again. I hope I can come on Friday, but am rehearsing with a new band and think that I have to meet them on Fri. Will definitely come if I can (and to the next gig otherwise :-)
what a great list of influences (espec The Beach Boys, The Wonderstuff, The Specials, Radiohead) - for some reason i was thinking about wonderstuff when i started listening to flying machine as well.
This bank holiday Sunday we’re playing the Carnival aftershow party at Ginglik, Shepherd’s Bush Green. It’s gonna be great! Come along and say hello.
Or, on Friday 4th September we’re playing at the very cool Born Bad night which is normally in Brighton but has made the trip up to London for a change. It’s at Barden’s Boudoir.
excellent set at the party last night, even whilst obscenely mashed i enjoyed it very much, looks like i will be at the 93 feet east gig which i look forward to immensely
