Bio:
The PepTides return with their third installment, the grand spectacle romp FOR THOSE WHO HATE HUMAN INTERACTION.25 eclectic songs in 3 Acts exploring the colossal theme of hate.
Leaping across the decades, The PepTides tour the peripherals of musical territories with racy beats, baroque ballads, and twisted funk. Satirical pleas, laments, and sneers probe this dramedy invoking a Broadway musical turned over its severed head. Sing-along while the whirling red emergency light floods the cavernous scope of humanity's volatility and folly.
With the album releases of I'M A SPY (2007) and STEREO STEREO (2008), The PepTides have been quietly garnering affection, such as CD Baby's 5 Star Editor's Pick ('masterful, genre-bending'). Instigator Claude Marquis widens the PepTides circle with vocalist DeeDee Butters playing titular roles in the stage-less show that is FOR THOSE WHO HATE HUMAN INTERACTION. It's an indie-audacious outing, for those who hate the ordinary.

"...a crazy mish-mash of styles and instruments that defies categorization, and it's so confident, so brassy and devil-may-care that it almost beggars belief..."
(THE OTTAWA CITIZEN - Album Review 5/5)
"...like an old hollywood soundtrack of a musical that has fallen from space or a weird dream you've had of Studio 54 ...incredible."
(Adam Saikaley - CBC Radio - BANDWIDTH)
"...one of the most original and crazy-ass albums I’ve heard in years."
(FAB MAGAZINE - Album Review 8/10)
"...an audacious undertaking..."
(XPRESS - Cover Story)
"What do you get when you when you mix the B-52's witha dash Stanely Kubrick's madness?"
(The Fulcrum)
“It’s everything I want to hear in music without sounding like a musical mutt”
(Doug Ralph, host “Do You Hear What I Hear”, CHUO fm)
"...dangerously addictive..."
(XTRA)
"...fait feu dans tous les sens."
(Guillaume Moffet - VOIR - Album Review 4/5)
"...a refreshingly bizarre blend of music-with-a-message and whimsical, retro-styled theatre."
(GUERILLA MAGAZINE - Feature Article)
"Like Beck's "Odelay", The Peptides have released a masterful, genre-bending sophomore album that throws quirk-folk, noir-pop, party grooves, and bubblegum playfulness into a boiling pot of sonic madness. Canadian songwriter Claude Marquis is at the helm, navigating us through eclectic waters steeped in the sounds of classic records from the past 5 decades. He eventually cascades down a violent waterfall where every conflicting convention collides, but somehow, in the end, manages to steer the boat to safety. It is an exhilarating ride and The Peptides’ lush vocal harmonies, reminiscent of The Beach Boys, Panda Bear, or Kings of Convenience, will lull you back on board time and time again to be tossed about in the currents of clashing influence."
(5/5 Editors' Pick review CD Baby)
"Not classic Dylan folk, but retro in the way you liked taking acid and enjoying “free love” and wearing platform shoes. I can’t put my finger on it, as my finger is too busy tapping to the music … [theirs is] a unique sound ... maybe they could be 'lounge folk'…"
(slowcoustic.com)
"... poppy tendencies, heavy on the vocal harmonies and indie moxie, more earnest than Rufus Wainwright, not so much folk as borderline torchsong experimentalists with a background in a capella music ... there's more to this band than just a schtick and a lipstick kiss."
(coverlaydown.blogspot.com)
"You might expect to be transported to a vintage listening room and bombarded with psychedelic sounds and choreographed dance routines, but when you really sit down and listen, you see that The Peptides sounds are much more complex...they completely erase any of that kitsch you keep expecting to surface and supplant it with honest emotion."

You can thank technology in large part for pleasantly strange musical phenomena such as The Peptides. You must also thank humanity, of course, just be careful not to go overboard there.
Back in 2006, armed with a home-recording laptop, a perfectionist’s zeal, and a knack for singing beautifully about the fatal flaws in human nature, Claude Marquis and his cohorts gave rise to The Peptides, a refreshingly bizarre blend of music-with-a-message and whimsical, retro-styled theatre.
While an astute Facebook commentator aptly described the band’s quirky, throwback sound as “Laurie Anderson meets Austin Powers with back up from the Beach Boys and the Bangles,” there is a serious underbelly beneath the styling and whimsy.
Though The Peptides rarely perform live, the band’s third and fourth albums dropped simulateously this summer: the lavishly produced concept collection called For Those Who Hate Human Interaction, and the introspective acoustic album titled North Hero.
A serial collaborator, Marquis seemed to discover a muse for these latest recordings in versatile vocalist Deedee Butters. But Marquis is a music machine, no doubt already at work on his next project and probably the one after that. Why are he and his crew hell-bent on doing whatever the heck they please? As Marquis explains it: “No label, no record company, and no fan base to corner us!”

Bio
The PepTides, the brainchild of Ottawa painter Claude Marquis and partner-in-crime DeeDee Butters, is a constantly evolving musical playscape. Marquis's prolific songwriting runs the gamut from tender acoustic ballads to uproarious electro-synth pop anthems—giving a chipper nod to every genre in between. Incisive lyrics contrast with layered harmonies, catchy backbeats and whimsical sound effects in an exploration of the existential questions "What happened?", "What's wrong?" and "What next?". Past albums include I'm A Spy (2007), Stereo Stereo (2008), North Hero (2010) and the award-winning For Those Who Hate Human Interaction (2010), voted 'Best Album of the Year' by the Ottawa Citizen. Fans eagerly await the forthcoming release of Love Question Mark in 2012. The PepTides have taken the national capital by storm at their live performances, which include opening night of the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and PepTides 360, an intimate theatre-in-the-round experience which was voted 'Best Live Show 2011' (Ottawa XPress). A ticket to a PepTides show is an invitation to partake in a lavish post-apocalyptic fête. The brazen 10-member troop brings audiences an energetic spectacle featuring vibrant vocals, kitschy costumes, provocative videos and spontaneous dancing—all set in a 1950s living room strewn with retro furniture and radios, minks and (sometimes) trees. At the core of the music is a dose of 21st-century social commentary. Song titles read like prescriptions: For Those Who Hate The Earth, For Those Who Hate The Voice In Their Head, For Those Who Hate Carnage. Yet The PepTides serve their pointed offering wrapped in an irresistible package of silk, soul, fedoras and funk.
