The Phantoms of the Opry sound like...Well, if you close your eyes during a show it might be the closest thing you could get to being there when this music was at it's prime.
Tim Rose and I, Paul Coughlin, met while playing in another band together. We discovered that we shared a deep and abiding love and respect for the good kind of country & western music...from the days when the two words went hand in hand. You know the kind. We decided that we'd like to try to dust off that kind of sound in our own sort of way. We needed a steel guitar player, so we asked Russ Wever and he joined us on our adventure. He plays a style that's perfect for this type of music. The Phantoms of the Opry was born. Shortly after it's birth, The Phantoms of the Opry attracted the amazing talent of Thomas McGregor on fiddle. We also feel lucky to have Nate Hofer stand in for Russ on occasion. What we do has been done before, yes. But not for a long time and certainly not in the traditional sense. What you'll find here is a quartet with the best of intentions and a whole lot of talent. Some songs are originals, but you'd never know it by the sounds. Just take a listen for yourself and see if you don't agree.
