An irresistible dance party unfolds every time this youthful, vibrant and soulful ensemble hits the stage with their exhilarating live show. Featuring the best from Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Jamiroquai, Michael Jackson, Tower of Power, and many more. The Phonix throw down thunderous, booty shaking grooves for tons of unstoppable dance-floor-quake! A crisp horn section, heavy hitting rhythm grooves and potent lyric delivery. Since their inception in 2009, The Phonix have filled up many Vancouver venues including The Yale, The Fairview Pub, The Backstage Lounge, The Railway Club, The Fairmont Pacific Rim and many more. In the summer of 2010, highlights for the band included a successful tour to the Okanagan for the Penticton Peach Festival and Kamloops’ Music in the Park, as well as selling out July 30th at The Yale; one of the biggest hotbeds for rhythm and blues in Western Canada. On the opening night of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, The Phonix billed with the McLean Girls at the Plaza of Nations right across from the opening ceremonies. In February, The Phonix hosted a fundraiser for Haiti earthquake relief where they billed with the Oye Collective (Saskatchewan), the Boom Booms, the Star Captains and Jackée Guillou.

Bio:

An irresistible dance party unfolds every time the eleven members of this youthful, vibrant and soulful ensemble hit the stage with their exhilarating live show.

Reuben, Jocelyn, Tim, Mike, and Blair form the largest and tightest five-piece horn section in town. Joe, Dave, Andrew and Markus lay down heavy hitting rhythm section grooves that bring out the Funk, R&B and Soul foundations of the band. Vocalists Geneva and David fearlessly front The Phonix with stunning vocal prowess that is a product of many years of experience. Geneva’s versatility and dynamic delivery stem from the influences of Carmen McRae, Bonnie Raitt and Eva Cassidy. As for David, “Think Zappa meets James Brown meets Tom Waits meets Stan Getz meets Marvin Gaye. Prepare to be dazzled, amazed, moved and amused.” John P. McLaughlin of The Province.

Since their inception in 2009, The Phonix have filled up many Vancouver venues and aim to expand their fan base as they embark on their first tour of the BC interior in the summer of 2010.

In May of 2010, The Phonix released their first two tracks debuting original material. "What Would You Say?" and "Feelin' High" fuse influences derived from the likes of Tower of Power, James Brown, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. These songs and the many more in production are the first steps of The Phonix in leaving their past as a cover band and becoming a distinctly original musical act.

THE PHONIX HAS PLAYED WITH THE FOLLOWING ARTISTS: Colin Bullock, Mani Khaira, The Boom Booms, Oye Collective, Star Captains, Jackee Guillou, and The Maclean Girls

THE PHONIX HAS PLAYED AT THE FOLLOWING VENUES: WISE Hall, Edgewater Celebration Village, Koener's Pub, El Barrio Restaurant, The Backstage Lounge, The Railway Club, Sailor Hagar's Brew Pub, and The Bridge Between Club
