five lads singing about life
"Opening the show were The Picks who strode onstage and strutted their stuff with a cheeky chappie type confidence. Their set flowed and they worked the room with ease and style Strong vocals and great band interaction got the night started with a bang!" bbc obs review.

We're The Picks, a band from the city of Leicester, compiled from 5 cheeky rascals with a love of music.
formed back in early november 2005 with the original line up, all the same but with matt swann on bass. We started out playing covers before moving on to our own stuff...it took a while to find common ground as the musical taste of band members is quite different try jack johnson to the misfits. we played our first ever gig in a willy's garage the holy mecca of all picks fans, some have compared it to the beatles house lol. We started playing a small Leicester venue known as the shed in march 2006, to be fair the first few gigs were not good lots of mistakes and many haters of the band but lets not talk about that. We got our first good gigs when we were asked to play on Porked 7 with ego-armalade and a support slot with the romance at the firebug in Leicester. Although not many people turned up to these gigs it was startin to come together are own songs were getting better and with introduction of a new bass player in ollie meant things were looking up for us. After these gigs we went on to play Leeds Metropolitan university on sunday night live with stagger and ego. we also managed to get ourselves a slot on the nokia unsigned bands stage at reading festival 2006 which was amazing. From there we have gone on to play basement night club with the Killquicks and the D-Day club night at the sumo with the displacements and the pigeon detectives..we have also played with the paddingtons and we are suupporting reverand and the makers soon
We make music that is a modern blend of different styles.
If you like The Strokes, The Kings of Leon, The Stones, The Cravattes and The Faces, you'll probably like us.
So come to one of the gigs listed and have a dance!

review on BBC website: Third on were strutters The Picks Theres plenty going on with this band. The front isn't monopolsed by their extremely loud and animate vocalist, they all get in on the act and once again they served up a very visual and lively performance that impressed.
No worries.. I would love to come and see you guys play but I think i'm working fri night.. hope the gig goes well anyways.. I know quite a few other people that are going so hopefully it will be a good one for you.. p.s how many bands are you in Joel?!? x
Heat Four Opening the show were The Picks who strode onstage and strutted their stuff with a cheeky chappie type confidence. Their set flowed and they worked the room with ease and style Strong vocals and great band interaction got the night started with a bang!
Next up were The Beat Club, a refreshingly soulful 60s influence to their performance and materiel with stax of potential and some interesting offerings.
Themselves slotted in third with an exceptional sound that is finely crafted, delivered smoothly and consistently well. Particular good performance from their man with the sticks.
Following on were 27Brigade with some good old rock and roll. Adding to the quality of the night, their materiel is different yet comfortably familiar. Individual yet encompassing enough to embrace new ears that were left in no doubt they had been well and truly "brigaded".
Final act were The Starrlings who are quality and no mistake. They delivered a perfectly executed set from a finely mastered songbook. With a busy schedule that slight lack of "hunger" left it open for others to outpace them on the final hurdle. Remember the name though, pure class.
Another good night over and the decisions were well examined and the selected winner of this heat was... The Picks, who will actually be playing on the 22 June semi.
pickys, i certainly would care to attend this event, but theres a chance i might be going to my dads on the 7th or the 8th next week, and seeing as your heat is the 8th this may well cause quite an overlap of dates in my diary.
But im not definately sure whats happenin with me dad yet, so if i dont go his you can bet your life i will be there xxxxx
