Euan and Tam play here at Celtic Connections 2006 with Cammy Henderson and Danny Mason.
The Pictoid's are basically a collective of edinburgh musicians playing scottish and irish songs and tunes. The line up varies in size according to the venue and material can often be contemporary on occasion. They have been playing now since early 2006 have already established regular work at a few public houses throughout the glorious regions of this fair island.
The duo that make up the core of the band (Tam and Euan)come from two other Edinburgh bands-Jacob's Pillow and The Dry Boak. The Pictoids however is more of a going back to a pure folk roots tradition for the two and their sets usually consist of scots and irish songs and also the odd english folk song(great songs are generally found everywhere).
The song's they perform can either be from within the last couple of hundred years such as Robert Burns or Robert Tannahill songs or the may be of an older tradition that is of an unknown origin usually part of a long forgotten oral tradition.
The Pictoid's play a folk session every monday and wednesday evening at The White Hart in Edinburgh's grassmarket area and this is quite possibly the best way to see them in a traditional atmoshpere.
They continue to play all over the country so be sure to keep an eye on their myspace page.
Greetings. I had a great night at the canonsgait last night. Nice to listen to some tunes for a change. My throats gubbed now though after cheering and shouting all night. Speak to you soon
Nae worries if there isn't any space then thats fine. It'll just be nice to have a weekend where i can come and see some other music.
I'm on Hols from the White Hart on 22nd and 29th Jan if you want to cover for me. Obviously have to clear it with Alan, but Murph says it should be fine.
WARNING: A few days ago I received a message with a video in it. When I tried to play the video I was sent to a login page that said I had to be a member to do that. Thinking it was just a computer error like being kicked off I entered my password again to “log back in”. After that I started getting and sending more bogus messages. I learned that that site was a phishing site where someone stole my password. I am not sending out videos and karma test as I know some of you are not sending them to me. I suggest that everyone change their password and never enter it in again if you are already logged in on myspace. Please send out this or your own warning to any of your friends who may be receiving bogus messages from you. I didn’t post this on a blog or bulletin cause I want you to see it right away. Also you should delete the bogus messages so no one visiting your site will try to open them.
