In the last year, the Piggies have hit the Colorado music scene hard. Always a popular Fort Collins group, this power trio has sustained a cult following for the past 5 years with their melodic breed of alternative rock. Known widely as the backing band for Cracker co-founder Johnny Hickman, they have come into their own with the release of their newest effort Rusted Bullets. Released in 2009, this album boasts an impressive hit after hit, beginning with their first single “Rotten Apple”. This is followed up with other favorites such as “Rusted Bullets”, “Who You Are”, “Do Me Good,” and “Complicated”.
Named Best Alt. Rock band by FoCoMA for the past two years, they have continued to be a favorite regional band for Northern Colorado. The Piggies are poised to take 2009 by storm, as they have recently been nominated in the Westword Music Showcase, been featured by many CO publications, garnered national radio airplay, and generated a buzz in the music industry.
Hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, the Piggies are comprised of some of the most well respected and sought after musicians in the region. Front-man Jason Larson has been writing music and playing in projects for over 15 years and has played/toured internationally with N.E.R.D. (Pharrell Williams). He is the owner/engineer of Pig Pen Recording Studios, which has been recording and mixing Colorado bands since 2002. Peter Knudson is a highly desired drummer, who does numerous studio sessions at the legendary Blasting Room in addition to his many side projects. Classically trained violist turned bass prodigy Caleb Riley has shared the stage with many bass greats, including Stu Hamm, Jeff Berlin, Billy Sheehan, and Victor Wooten.
Named after the Beatles song, “Piggies”, which serves as a social commentary from the White Album, The Piggies continue to not only put out quality music, but quality shows. They constantly wow audiences and have played with such acts as, The Guess Who, Ted Nugent, and Roger Clyne. They constantly raise the bar and set standards by putting meaning into their songwriting, where deep lyrics meet with catchy hooks to produce a widely accepted, yet unique style.
