General

: : : ABOUT US : : :
The Pillow Project is a dance company seeking to become the vanguard on Pittsburgh's East End for compelling artistic collaborations and experimentations by intriguing local artists and new audiences with our casual dance/art happenings and innovative, full-length performance installations. We utilize vivid, multimedia imagery and visually-percussive choreography to physicalize thought-provoking concepts and engage in abstract conversations with our audiences.

Committed to crafting original ideas that directly translate an audio experience into a full visual experience, we are a creative hub in Pittsburgh that encompasses many diverse artistic mediums under a revolving central idea or theme, combining each other’s talents to develop conceptually interesting and complete presentations.

Through our unique hybrid of art and performance work, The Pillow Project, led by artistic director Pearlann Porter, is focused on developing a stronger awareness of, and increased interest in, the arts in Pittsburgh by offering something relevant and approachable to audiences otherwise unfamiliar with the cultural aspect of our city - while still offering something artistically challenging and emotionally provoking for the established artistic community.

We intend to increase our impact on Pittsburgh's cultural scene by constantly developing new performance-based multimedia art “happenings”, featuring stylistically unique and unifying collaborations, encompassing the many different artistic areas we house - taking the dreams off the pillow and making them a reality.

with video projections, props and puppets.

Hello The Pillow Project

Eliminate all BUTs from your life. Think about what the effect of BUT is in your communication to yourself and others. When we talk to ourselves we often use BUT to distort our reality in a way that leads us to go down familiar negative paths. We tell ourself a postive and then use BUT to take it away a lot of times. We tell someone that we love them and then we spoil it by saying BUT this is happening which our special person interprets as we don't really love them. I am successful BUT I am not as motivated as I want to be. Does this take away from the pleasure of being successful or does it take away the success altogether.

Use the word AND instead; you will find that you are more at peace with yourself, and your friends and family appreciate the positive talk. You will even find it easier to get rid of that other BUTT when you stop using BUT altogether.

Mystically yours,

What people have been whispering about is TRUE!
Strange sightings… Unexplained phenomena. . . scientific anomalies…
Squonk Opera will be responding to the cover-ups with…
ASTRO - RAMA!

With 3 stories of scaffolding and a 40 ft radio telescope,
Squonk Opera will take you on a wild visual and musical celebration of the universe and our place in it.

Part symphony, part cacophony, Astro-Rama dares to go where no
multi-media/theater/performance group has gone before.

Rising in scissor lift platforms and cherry pickers, Squonk will compose a proud message from our species,
power up and transmit.

Stand with us, and the truth will be revealed.
