Miss Me

Have you ever tried to catch a dandelion, and in hot pursuit tripped and fell laughing, only to realize that the adventure was more exciting an actually capturing the feathery flower? Well, that’s how you will experience me, only I’m a chick who is black and can write. I have a boyfriend who I love hard and plan to marry, simply someday soon. I love folks and fast food. I love my hair and I love makeup. I love my friends, though I hate how I am emotionally attached to them.

I started writing at 11 years old, my first poem was about divorce. I never knew anyone who went through a divorce, but after listening to Babyface songs, I put my self in that person’s shoes. Empathy is one of the best qualities to have as a writer. I wrote a song in middle school, and sung it in front of class. Everyone laughed at me and that song all year. Everyone remembered that song all year. I thought I had something special after that. I was a prolific poem writer as a teenager and throughout my early 20s. I learned about journalism, creative nonfiction and public relations in college.

I’m not exactly the chick whom I’d like to be. But I’m working on it. I love music and parties. Liquor and wine. I shun abstinence. I love to indulge.

I write now about love, sadness, music, women, progress and pride. I make up shit and I’m honest. I am expressive and whiny. I want understanding, but shun prying. I am funky, yet conservative; simple yet extravagant. Who I am is constantly changing, constantly being created and discarded. Don’t expect anything from me…expect everything. ..
