Thomas Thorp has been playing music since he was 15. He wrote a song the first time he picked up a guitar and fell in love with music. Him and his close friend Cole Bates learned together by bouncing ideas back and forth. They loved old Metallica. Thomas moved to Seattle, when he was 18, with big dreams of meeting other musicians and making something happen. He met many good musicians and GREAT friends, but the timing was a bit off for the musical fireworks he had hoped for. He moved back to New Mexico with his girlfriend Elisha, when he was 22.
A good friend had a little brother that needed guitar lessons, his name was Paul Bishop. Thomas had known Paul since he was very young and had always thought Paul to be a very cool intelligent kid. So the lessons started and, well... Paul was a natural. The lessons quickly turned into creative jam sessions, and they started writing songs. They have been writing music together since July of '06 and have accumulated more than 60 original tunes in that time. The songs vary widely in musical styling and emotion. They have kept a constant flow of new material and have not dwelt in one place for too long.
They have played under the name 'The Pioneers of Prime Time TV' since their first show. People seem to respond well to their originality and they have acquired a small but loyal fan base in the Southern New Mexico area. This will only continue to build steam, with the additions of Josh Nichols and Jon Berry.
They have added a much needed dynamic and presence. Josh Nichols has played guitar and bass for more than five years and has a very straightforward yet unique approach to songwritting and music. He has an excellent singing voice and is a very versitile member of the band, able to play just about any fretted stringed instrument that their songs may require.
Jon Berry is one of those people that was born with music in his blood. His mother was a music teacher for many years and his father has played music for decades. All of Jon's siblings are musically inclined as well. Jon plays the violin with humble mastery and dedication, and he has a vocal range that could make the most seasoned choir director blush. To top it off he plays and writes his own tunes on the 12-foot concert grand he has in his living room.
And with these few pieces of a large puzzle, 'The Pioneers of Prime Time TV' hope that a prolific start will continue to get better with time and practice.
