Influences
Different things at different times and some things the same frequently... The Kinks, Bessie Smith, Moondog, Mumlers, Baby Walrus, Nehemiah St. Danger, Continuous Peasant, The Papercuts, Kelley Stoltz, Paddle Boat, and .......(you fill in the blanks)
Plantain is the musical vehicle of James (J.F.) Holmes with the help of friends. They sometimes play live. A few of them are from Mumlers, and some of the songs were attempts to write Mumlers songs. Other songs are extraordinary incidents of pure self expression and deep meditation that is rarely seen outside of the Easy Listening/ New Age genre. Think of a saxophone note that will not cease until the end of time.
I am digging me some Plantain right now. This music is a delight. Lovely singing voice, too.
Thanks for the CD, James--you've got one coming your way.
p.s. standout line: I believe you said something to the effect of words are marbles. it reminds me ...in Rules of Attraction, one of the main characters says "words roll from my mouth like gum balls."
Hello James. At work, I have to put glass beads onto nutrient plates and shake them for several minutes at a time and they sound like maracas...so Shake That Medication is stuck in my head more or less every day... Don't be a stranger, say hello one of these days!
