As for the Virtual Bass stuff,

It's a bit of a bugger to program, but sounds cool once you get used to it. This is only a temporary fix till I finally buy a bass :)

I use a line 6 toneport ux2 to hook up my guitar to my laptop, then use gearbox (the software that came with the toneport) for all my sounds, distortion etc and record the tracks wet, not had much luck recording DI tracks then putting the effects on afterwards :(
I record everything through Cubase, use Virtal Bassist for bass guitar (dont own a bass yet), and mix/master the final track through Cubase as well :)
