"We like to create dreamy tracks which build on a series of sound effects"
"We chose the name because pliable means flexible. It's a good description of how we feel when we're playing music".
"We like to create dreamy tracks which build on a series of sound effects and hope to send our thoughts, ideas and our music to our audience. Hopefully, people will be able to identify with it and appreciate it" says Joel.
the Pliable comprising Joel (vocals, guitars, keyboards and sound effects), Chun (bass and backing vocals) and Wai (drums), have been together since October 1999. They were brought together by a shared love of music. Originally a four-piece, the group became a trio with the departure of original guitarist Eric Siu in 2003.
The group cite acts such as Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Tat Ming Pair(HK), Ride, Travis, Sigur Ros, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, My Bloody Valentine, The Verve, Portishead, DJ shadow etc as their key influences. The Pliable's music combines a calm, brewing intensity with early 1990s Manchester- styles grooves that simmers but never exceeds boiling point.
In summer of 2005, The Pliable has released their debut album Parallel under Hong Kong indie label 89268. The album captures the sound of the city at night, but with a psychedelic spin. And feels sparse and atmospheric. The seven tracks are accompanied by three video clips accessible via computer. In October of 2005, the bands participated in compilations of 89268 the 5th Element: Stop Terrorism, featuring the new song Filmmaker.
