The idea behind the Plough was to offer a friendly open evening for Anyone who enjoys making music, singing songs or reciting poems/monologues to come along to and share their enjoyment with like minded people, and those who wanted to listen... also to raise money for ARC (Arthritis Research Campaign)
A suggestion has been put forward that it would be nice also to have a Guest Night - this would be a no charge event, but a raffle and bucket collection would be held to raise money to pay the artistes and supplement the ARC collection.
The evening would take the form of the old "Folk Club" evenings, when the resident group would open the evening, then the Guest Artiste would do a spot, then a Singers Spot/ break/raffle then the Guest would finish the evening off.
To this end we would like groups, solo artistes etc who would be willing to Guest at The Plough to contact us - these will be Charity Nights to raise money for ARC so consider your required Fee in light of this also the size of the room - which will only hold 30ish people, if the occasion is an event that is liable to attract a larger audience (like when The Polyjesters came over) the main part of the Pub is available. PA can be provided or use your own if required.
We'd love these night to take off, and the opportunity to raise some more money for ARC as Arthritis can have a devastating effect on anyone suffering but for musicians it can be totally devastating. To quote Gordon Giltrap who got Penny Black involved with Fund Raising for ARC It can take your life without killing you.
With Your Support as Artistes and Audience we can make the Plough Sessions a "Make Music Live" Venue - using our talents and skills to help others whilst having fun with friends......
OK now it's up to you - as it was said in the Film "If You Build it - they will come" - the foundations have been laid - are you going to be a brick?
Give us your ideas, suggestions, offers of support - lets make 2008 a year to remember.
This years festival is headlined by Billy Bragg (Friday), Seth Lakeman (Sunday) and Peatbog Faeries (Saturday) with many more top artists also performing incl the award winning The Demon Barbers.
