ThePoetBlackOrchid has written poetry over twenty years. Her style can only be described as honest and to the point. She is not one that minces words. She manages to fuse the classic forms of poetry with a comtemporary flare. She has a geniune love and respect for the mothers and fathers of poetry; not alone, but including William Shakespeare, Egar Allen Poe, Emily Dickenson, Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, John Keats, Robert Browning, John Herricks, Walt Whittman, E.E. cummings, Slyva Platt and of course their contemporaries; Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Amri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, The Last Poets, Ntozake Shange and Claudette Sims. As a teenager she competed in UIL tornaments in Poetry and Dramatic Interpetation. Where she was nicknamed " The Ego-Trippin' Girl". This only fueled her desire to write and perform her own poetry.
She has been featured on several Whisperd Words Mixes(as PurplePisces) and is a Proud member of TheNewWordOrder and Prysmatic Dreams Family.
She is has taught poetry in Community Outreach House of Houston. She also created and hosts the website Dapoetryhub. She is currently working towards her Masters in English Literature at University of Houston.
