   About The Porcupine Effect
The Porcupine Effect

The band formed in January 2007, with ex-members from well known local bands The Absence, Small Town Hero and marvel. Coming second in the final of the 'Liquid Junior Battle of the Bands 2007' and gradually building up a bit of a following, this band aims to enjoy themselves and to be a little different from other bands around at the moment...

Reviews of The Porcupine Effect...

ParkLive 2007
22nd July 2007

"...At 1pm The Porcupine Effect took to the stage and wowed everyone with their funk music and so much more all from a band average age just 16 years old..."

Written by the ParkLive Committee

Battle of the Bands, Heat 3
7th August 2007

"...[The Porcupine Effect] Impressed the judges with an exuberant performance, displaying consummate musicianship throughout a varied set that boasted funk-fuelled twists on everything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to The Turtles - with a Porcupine Effect original thrown in for good measure..."

Battle of the Bands, Final
28th August 2007

"It's impossible to classify the Porcupine Effect, but jazz, rock funk crossover is a pretty good stab at it. Their unique fusion seemed to leaved half the crowd nicely confused and the other in raptures but it left everyone blown away. These were four talented youngsters who, if there is any justive in the world, will go farther than our 45 square miles.

The set was complete with fantastic keyboards from Aaron Burrows and great drumming from Brent Connan. The four piece only managed one original number because they had had little time to practice but the music as a whole was the most original of the night."

What are you thinking of doing this Friday? If it isn't going down to Live Lounge to witness the unstoppably mighty Bulletproof, the intensely dark Nocturnum, and the uniquely horrible We Bury Our Own, have a word with your bad self.

Feb 16 2009 9:00 PM

This Friday, 20th February, at Live Lounge: Danny, Zack, Brin and The Colonel return to Jersey for Asylum presents the mighty Nemesis with support by Salem's Lot.

Eighteen years ago the spandex was tight as the perms and beer was £1 a pint. The fire of heavy rock never really dies, it just occasionally splutters in the winds of time, and then returns with monstrous rhythm, skull-squashing bass, razor-sharp guitar solos and preposterously glorious lyrics. Prepare for the metal mayhem!

The picture shows Captain Asylum snapping a brontosaurus's head off with one punch. That is rather like how you'll feel after you've seen and heard these great bands - like Captain Asylum, triumphant in conquest of the Jurassic Period, or like the dinosaur which is obviously f**ked. Either way.

The Speedways, Jaded Things and Brave Yesterday are playing at the Live Lounge tomorrow, Friday 6th. It starts at ten. DJing will be by Carlo Zen and Livingstone.
