Josh Cowart started playing guitar as a way to get away from the rigors of dental school 10 years ago. Since then he has led two bands through the finest indie rock clubs in Seattle. When his previous band, Hourglass Lake parted ways, he started the Preons with his sister Janie. Josh’s unique song writing skills and Janie‘s drumming style converged to create the foundation for the Preons sound. Previous lineups have featured as many as 7 members including a dj, a vibraphonist and various horns.
Brad Nelson, the trumpet player, now also fills the keyboardist role. To take over the bass parts, Brad convinced his friend John Hendow, who spent 20 years playing guitar for Seattle reggae legends Jumbalassy, to make the leap to bass in an indie rock band. The result was dynamic. John and Brad, both holders of music degrees, have embraced the liberating world of indie rock, while still incorporating elements of their similar pasts in jazz, classical, and reggae.
The Preons are releasing their very first LP; Starshine on the
Devilwoods. The release of this album is the closing of a chapter for
everyone involved in the making.
Just about every single major life event occured during the making of this album. Rehab, weddings, weddings cancelled, death, and the band seeing two of its members leave. Like walking over hot coals, or
discovering through hard times that you're better off due to the
adversity, this album made the band closer.
While the band couldn't be happier about the finished product, the making of this album was about the journey.
We're ecstatic to have this completed and can't wait to take it on the road. The strenuous process of making this album is complete and ready.
